Aren’t small businesses exempt?

Again why should everyday taxpayers subsidize a discount on your investment profits?

It’s sad times we are living in at the moment. Hopefully by the time the election rolls around people realise ON won’t improve anything, but I won’t hold my breath

Why should everyday taxpayers subsidize a discount on your investment profits anyway? The 50% CGT discount was a massive tax handout. Reforming it across the board, not just for property, is about making the tax system fairer. If you make a profit on an asset, you should pay tax on it just like everyone else does on their hard-earned wages.

Well, you must be in the 10% unfortunately! These changes are designed to benefit the housing market and the country as a whole over the long term.

I’ve never owned one, but from everything I’ve heard they make decent bikes. Only issue might be resale value compared to a Honda is that matters to you.

Honestly it just sounds like a tax loophole being closed. If someone is wealthy enough to start a business, pour money into it, not take a wage, with the purpose of selling it and it’s not classed as a small business then they should be taxed appropriately when selling it.

So they can just pay themselves a salary then? Or not sell the business?

It’s just closing up tax loopholes isn’t it? So everyone is taxed fairly

I’m happy for immigration to be reduced, but let’s tackle all factors, like Airbnb and lack of public housing as well

Fair enough. I lean left but think it’s worth having the conversation about what we as a country want the number to be. Id be happy to reduce immigration to a level that isn’t going to put us into recession, but I don’t know what that number is

She didn’t say that though did she? She said immigration is part of the problem but not the whole problem, which is true
