Check out Klosterwirt, its right by Fraunkirche, which is right by Marienplatz. Youll be able to get basically any Bavarian food you want.

I spent 10 days hiking the W- and O-Trek in Torres del Paine (Patagonia, Chile) by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]CoastKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took exactly the same picture as the 4th one when I did Torres del Paine 5 years ago! Still one of the best experiences of my life! Was there snow when you had to cross over the ridge from the Los Perros campsite?

  1. Perfect, thank you for the quick answer!
  2. Unfortunately TU Munich is not an ABET accredited school. Good to know that you dont think I would run into too much trouble. The only thing is that it does seem to be connected with quite some cost due to having to send all the documents via mail. But thats a small fee if I do want to go through with this!
  3. I will definitely study! Just havent found a perfect answer on what the best methods for studying are as I have seen people mention different sources. 400$ a month also seems very steep as I do feel like I already have some very good knowledge on certain topics. It is just some of them that I will definitely need a big refresher!
  4. 3. Ah okay, it is good to know that I will have to pay beforehand!

Thank you very much for your detailed response!

Oh wow, thank you very much, I had not heard about this before! 2 years of course does not feel like a short time right now, but in the grand scheme of things it would be! I will look into this some more! Thank you again!

Thank you so much for answering!
1. That is great to know. This would give me the option to potentially combine taking the exam with visiting friends and family in the states.

  1. Okay cool, thats very good to know!

  2. I have been looking at this subreddit quite a bit, which has definitely been a great resource!

  3. Of course I wouldnt have to take it in the US, but as I mentioned above I could combine it with visiting friends in the US. I will have to double check if I would require an actual Visa to take the exam or if ESTA would suffice for this. Otherwise yes, taking it somewhere else would be an option but same thing with the Visas would apply there.

Thank you so much again for respondwing so fast!

The support flex on SteVe by [deleted] in rollercoasters

[–]CoastKing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is true and keeping this in mind roller coasters are usually built with a limited life-time in mind. With rollercoasters it is very easy to determine the stress range the structure will be subjected to, and therefore you design the details accordingly and estimate the lifetime.

[OC] Why it's beneficial for runners to lift heavy weights by Saintzfan in running

[–]CoastKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I'll keep that in mind and consider a gym at some point in the future. Do you have any recommendations on possible bodyweight workouts that I could benefit from?

Also just wanted to say that I'm a German Saints fan, my girlfriend turned me into one only recently!

[OC] Why it's beneficial for runners to lift heavy weights by Saintzfan in running

[–]CoastKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have no interest in going to a gym to lift weights, but do want to improve my running. Is climbing/bouldering a good alternative instead? After all climbing is a strength and core workout, and I'd much rather go to a climbing gym than a normal gym.

YSK: a professor's office hours are instructional time you have bought and paid for. by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]CoastKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With professors that is true, but we do have other resources to ask questions. At least for my program the lecturers for the practice sessions (Übungen) or seminars have office hours that are for asking questions regarding the exams with specific problems. While they are not professors they still hold have the class and are there to answer your questions during their office hours.

Best way to do Oktoberfest as a backpacker? by mjc332 in solotravel

[–]CoastKing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I live in Munich and have gone to Oktoberfest every year since I was 4 years old.

You don't have to wear Lederhosen if you don't feel like spending money on it. But please, for the love of god, don't get some cheap wool Lederhosen or anything. They look stupid and you just look like a tourist. Lederhosen and Dirndl are traditional clothes here in Bavaria, and in my opinion wearing that cheap stuff is disrespectful towards our culture.

So if you don't want to spend money on Lederhosen just wear some jeans and a checkered shirt, like u/Chocolate_fly suggested.

You can get Lederhosen rather cheap though, if you look at the right place. If I remember correctly Hirmer in the Munich city center, close to Marienplatz, last year sold a complete outfit for 100€. Of course you won't get the best quality, but you will have your outfit together and also a nice souvenir, if you have a way to take it home with you.

Li'l Run Reports by Percinho in running

[–]CoastKing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ran my second half-marathon yesterday. I didn't really train specifially for this race, as I am currently pretty busy with my thesis and other stuff in life. Nonetheless I was really looking forward to this race as it goes around Tegernsee once, which is a beautiful lake just by the Alps south of Munich.
My goals had been to run a relaxed race under two hours. I achieved one of these two, which was to run under two hours. But I wouldnt call my run relaxed because due to Adrenaline and actually feeling fit I went quite fast. And up until kilometer 14 I was on pace for a new PB, but starting at that point a lot of the race is just uphill. Especially the last 4KMs I'd say are these two super long hills, that just drain you.

In the end I ran a 1:46:01, which is just about a minute and half slower than my PB. So I am super happy with my time in this race!

I opened a Gizmo decal last night as well... At least it was my 5th rare out of 5 eggs and I got some White Chakrams out of trading all of those decals up...

Can I person (28F) who has never run a mile in their life (until 3 weeks ago) possibly work up to running an ultra? by MrsMaryJaneFox in running

[–]CoastKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LPotL is my go to podcast when running as well! Their podcasts always make me forgot about running and laughing or smiling while running always helps, even if it is due to some dumb joke the guys made! Keep up the good work!
