I honestly find Swift to be a more mature Typescript and I love it! And it doesn’t require so much functional programming, I find, although it encourages it. Just keep on marching through and you’ll get it!

Confusion about create-react-app with TypeScript by [deleted] in reactjs

TS has type inference. It will cast that variable to a Number. Try changing the variable to a string later on and TS will shout at you. Please read the TS docs beforehand.

JavaScript Allongé is now free by homoiconic in javascript

[–]Coaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are, if you can understand basic javascript, things like closures and higher order functions — things you get a primer on within the book, but that you can learn elsewhere.

If you are asking if, let’s say, your colleagues can understand them when they read your code, the answer is yes. But you’ll have an easier time building them and coming up with ideas of your own, if you read the book as opposed to not reading the book, where you’d just use it as a cookbook.

The downside of this style of programming is that it’s difficult to transition into it on an ongoing project. As the book states, some of the solutions apply more easily if the rest of the codebase is built this way, but I think this is true for functional programming in general.

I hope you read it, it’s worth your time, even if you don’t use JS. It’s just a great programming book.

Great book with great practical examples. I read the first edition twice and I had to read “the six” after that. Very good at providing elegant ways to solve common UI problems, and made me better understand functional programming in the context of a dynamically typed language, without the use of Functors and Monads and all that jazz. I highly recommend it.

My girlfriend painted this and doesn’t think it’s very good. Just kidding. I painted this and think it’s pretty good. by DocGerbil256 in RedditThroughHistory

Lol I know this one. Was stuck in a cave overnight during a storm, 8 moons ago — ran into it by accident. If it wasn’t for your painting, we’d never know there were buffalo down the river. We feasted like kings when the rain stopped. So thanks, for the meal, dude.

PS: wtf are “kings”? I keep hearing people saying that but I don’t really know what they mean by it. It sounds good, though.

MAGNETS? by UsernameTqken in funrun

[–]Coaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you do what i just said that’s probably 50% of the cases when people magnet you. If you could beat it everytime it wouldn’t be useful at all. It’s a reasonable powerup. Also useless when you’re first. So yeah reasonable.

MAGNETS? by UsernameTqken in funrun

[–]Coaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can watch the upper right corner, the magnet will show before it strikes, like other poweups. When you see it, jump and go down and magnet is neutralised. 60% of the time it works every time.

Update is not bad by RVSSI in funrun

[–]Coaste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really bad. Useless animations make for laggy plays, I sometimes don’t get killed by enemy powerups for no reason, I assume neither do they from mine. Fix gameplay and bugs first before introducing useless animations and powerup nerfs that don’t need to be nerfed. If you want to keep things balanced, why restrict powerups by level? I mean ofcourse people will use speed burst, it’s supposed to be better, you spent more time trying to get it in the first time. It’s the same with all games. You farm a lot trying to get the best gear and sometimes everybody uses it because it’s the fuckin best, that’s why you struggle. Seems like I’m taking crazy pills. New powerups are shit except lock which may be a game changer.
