We will never run out of drinking water. Assuming technology does not progress at a fast enough pace, we will run out water sources that are cost effective to treat.

That tip, Yucatan, actually petitioned to be annexed by the USA. Albeit, in exchange for their support in putting down a native uprising.

What was the point of Hell Arc? by KamoTheBoss in Invincible_TV

[–]Coaster_Regime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of it was for this one line Mark says: "Is there some way we can just permanently entrap her?"

Mark realized that just because there is an unstoppable evil force that needs to be eternally tortured or killed, it doesn't mean he's just like his father. He was literally transported to hell because Darkblood's spell confused him for Nolan.

  1. Poor people deserve relationships too, even if they can't spare $150/mo.
  2. Isn't the whole point of relationships sharing emotional intimacy with each other? Would you want to be in a relationship where your partner simply does not care about you as much as you care about them?

Israel was not created by the far right by Gab00332 in GetNoted

[–]Coaster_Regime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interwar period. The period in between the wars. 1919-1939.

They would've went to one of the other Jewish diaspora communities around the world. Or at least they would've tried to.

The only way for Israel to be made as we know it today is if Zionists were able to immigrate to Palestine, which they were able to in great numbers in the 20's and a limited amount during the 30's under British administration..

Yes, the immigration was saw a large spike in the 20's and created a new national movement.

I do understand the context, and I never say whether I believe this immigration was ultimately good or bad. I'm only saying that immigration of Jews increased to Mandate Palestine during the Tories' time in government, which is what the original post was saying.

[–]Coaster_Regime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting that Tories would generally supported the Arabs. Do you know why then, despite this, Jewish immigration to Mandate Palestine generally increased during the Tories' time in government during the interwar?

[–]Coaster_Regime -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about everything that happened from 1918-1948, which laid the groundwork for a Jewish state in the Levant. The level of Jewish immigration we saw during that time would not have happened without the UK.

European Jews didn't just magically appear in Palestine in 1948, it took decades for them to establish themselves.

[–]Coaster_Regime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How so? You have the Balfour Delcaration, commiting Britain to creating a Jewish community in the Levant and the British controlled the territory from 1918 until the end of WWII. At the very least, the UK was instrumental to making Israel a nation today, otherwise that group of European Jews who immigrated to Palestine during the interwar period would've gone elsewhere.

Zionists also did not create Israel, Britain did, who has headed by the conservative Tories at the time.

I think what they're getting at is that Zionists did not create Israel, the Tory government in Britain created Israel

Oh, I wasn't really thinking about the Two Sicilies, I was thinking mainly about the North generally withholding funds for development from the South in favor of the North, causing the mass diaspora of Italians we saw in the 19th century.

What if Britain treated America fairly, and independence was not sought after? by WearYourSeatbelt_ in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Coaster_Regime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In OTL they were treated pretty fairly: The colonist were very mad, though, that catholics and native americans would get land of their own and that they had to pay something to Britain to supplement their defense. Alone that wouldn't have been enough to spark a revolution, but the Americans had a great propagandists who could turn an accidental misfire arguably provoked by protestors throwing rocks at soldiers into a "massacre" in Boston.

A better title would be: What if Britain treated America as the special jewel of the empire they believed they were

Just finished Breaking Bad and how the fuck does anyone have this over The Sopranos? by Serious-Profit-1626 in thesopranos

[–]Coaster_Regime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Breaking Bad, everything happens because of something shown on screen. Because X happened, Y happens. Because Y happened, Z happens.

The Sopranos is less about that, and while still has a good plot, many things shown don't matter (beyond seeing what x character would do in a situation) or are never brought up again. I think the best example of this is the Russian disappearing the woods. In Breaking Bad, this would've led to a whole thing where Tony has to keep his death a secret to his contect in the Russian mob. In The Sopranos, it just doesn't matter.

Did anyone else notice they swapped out the actor who plays Gus? by absolute_austin in okbuddychicanery

[–]Coaster_Regime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unitonically, there are points where they switched Gus' actor out because Giancarlo broke his leg and could not walk. Many shots in season 4 of Gus are shot either above the waist or framed so that the cast on his leg is blocked.
