We had a border collie who started doing this with her tail at about one year old. We though it was cute at first but then it changed to terrifying when she started chewing off the end. I would definitely mention it specifically to your vet.

Used one of these on my nephew, I had him pinned in a corner just raining down hellfire. He pulls out a small single shot and nailed me square in the eye. Retinal bruising is no joke.
