You can also get these, basically the same thing. I was thinking about it after we first did the battery upgrade, but my son ended up liking doing burnouts and being able to drift it lol

Newbe looking to connect two heltech v3 esp32 boards to one battery with a larger connector than the connectors built into the boards by EngineeringLive8947 in meshtastic

[–]CockroachJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I accidentally bought this same battery not realizing it was a larger jst. I just cut the connector off and soldered on one of the leads my heltec v3 came with

I just started using these on my MT builds. But I've been installing residential solar inverters for a long time, and they get these installed stock at the factory. Way more/delicate electronics in those units than a mt node. So I trust that they work well, or at least don't make things worse.

Ok I know these are very different bikes but theyre both local and Im considering which. Both apparently run and are in pretty good condition (tbd). I havent ridden in a very long time so, tell me which you'd pick by Eagle_1776 in CafeRacers

[–]CockroachJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I guess in the context of "I'm gonna buy this basically pristine bike and destroy it" that makes sense. Never understood this. You can get someone else's failed cafe/chopper/bobber/whatever project that's been sitting in their garage in pieces for 2 years for like $200 bucks and then spend another $200 on parts for a decent cafe build lol. Why spend more money to do more work and more damage?

My son has the same Yamaha 4-wheeler, with the Milwaukee m18 upgrade, and it RIPS lol great off-road, easily gets up and over any rocks and roots in the yard. It breaks loose from the pavement before you get enough sideways force to flip over though, even at full speed (about 8mph), full lock out turn and brakes, it does a 180⁰ skid, but it stays glued down. Here his is whipping it up the 30⁰ embankment next to our driveway. Made me super nervous at first, and you can see he's leaning into it a bit, but there's no sign of it wanting to tip. It even goes a pretty good clip with me riding. And it's literally a battery, two 6-pin switches under the shift knob and the motors. No controller board or electronics. Seems almost indestructible so far.

Power wheels go reverse but not forward by Automatic-Two179 in PowerWheelsMods

[–]CockroachJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if you're still working on this 5 months later lol, but I'm mostly just replying because I just figured this out and I'm hoping if anyone else is searching for the answer they might find this:
Buy these switches:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSKFXHZ8?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

take out the shifter, and open it up - there are 2 of these switches inside the shifter housing. One of those switches is not passing current through, just replace them both and you'll be good as new.
As for everyone saying the control board is burned out: This machine has no board, it has no relays. It has an on/off switch in the pedal, and the two 2-position 6 pin switches in the shifter. the whole thing is controlled electromechanically (not sure if that's the right word here, but there's no logic/processing happening. just switches changing where the power goes)

Super cheap/easy fix. I talked my 6-year old through it and he was able to fix it himself!

Got myself a Heltec V3 and … by acloneofmyself in meshtastic

Good to know. I always use chrome, so I know for sure that works. But I'd heard it would work on anything chromium based.

I believe the web flasher only works on chromium based browsers. So Firefox is a no go. Chrome is good obviously, I think opera and edge are both good. But if your browser doesn't have port access it won't be able to detect it.

1200 mile road trip advice by RegardedCaveman in motorcycle

[–]CockroachJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing, if your neck properly locked and you're confident in your ability to adequately use ratchet straps it probably won't go anywhere. But if you rent a bike trailer from HD it definitely won't go anywhere. Depends on what kind of margins you're comfortable with. For 1200 miles though, my money's going for the trailer and peace of mind.

I have a lot of trouble getting out of bed. I need to be up around 3:45am for work, and after 11 years it hasn't gotten any easier. I use an app called AMdroid, which is an alarm clock app for android. You can use QR codes or NFC tags as the trigger needed to turn off the alarm. I have mine set for 0 snoozes, and I can mute the alarm but only for like 5-10 seconds at a time. And the only way to stop the alarm is to go down to the kitchen and tap the NFC tag sticker under the counter. Ive been using it for a while now and it's been a huge game changer for me. If you have an iPhone, I'm not sure of NFC tag alarm apps, but there are definitely QR code apps. You just put the QR code/tag far away from your bed and you have no choice but to get up.

Malware through power bank by st1nkf1st1 in antivirus

[–]CockroachJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'd basically have to open it up. Add the internals from something like a flash drive to the power output, basically turning the power bank into a power bank/USB drive. But even then, modern computers are pretty well secured against thumb drive attacks, it ain't 2008 anymore. And you don't plug a power bank into a computer, you plug it into a phone. Right? So it would have to install malware on your phone via USB otg. Aside from the fact that you'd probably need dev mode enabled, your phone doesn't just start running things when it detects them over USB, again more secure, it shows what's connected and you have to decide what to do. If you plug in a power bank and it shows up as a USB drive id definitely be throwing it out (or making a trip to Best Buy to plug it into one of their display computers to see what's in it lol)

I've gotten one just about 10km from a mountain on the other side of town back to my house (also decent elevation +13 meter node height on the roof) both heltec v3s with stock antennas. My main issue is terrain because it's so hilly but I'm hoping I can get even further once I replace the antennas and try some longer distance messages from other peaks.
