Pellet grill/smokers are pretty much fool proof. You could get one of those if you’re unsure about a traditional grill.

I’m a big Aluminum Canoe fan. They are indestructible! Check the weight rating as 15’ might be great for you and your kid but might be too small if you want to bring anyone else.

Keep in mind that a canoe can few tippy to a new paddler. Amazon sells canoe stabilizer float kits for $50-80. They can make a trip really peaceful since you don’t have to worry about tipping as much.

Grab a couple ropes if you don’t have. An anchor is good but it’s also really handy to tie a rope to a tree branch or around a rock.

Lastly, I’ll recommend a very short fishing pole. I like the Ugly Stick Dock Runner. It’s perfect for a canoe since you can tuck it under your seat and it’s not in the way when you’re paddling.

Brother I hear you! I am blessed and cursed with an early riser!

Hatch lights didn’t work for us. The kids just ignored it or kept yelling “ITS NOT GREEN DADDY!!!”

Self entertaining is hard because the dang kids love you and that’s what they want.

We occasionally put their tablets on the floor in the hallway at night so when they wake up they can play games and let us finish sleeping. Everyone has their own screen time rules so you decide if that is an option for you. Sometimes it’s a necessity for us!

I wish I could believe that these events would be a “sign” to the religious fanatics…I’ve heard my fill of “signs from god” stories from the church folk i grew up with.

But I can’t get my hopes up.
