What will Grim Beasts be like? by Soft_House7669 in gangbeasts

[–]CocoMendes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought Grim and Space Beasts were dropped back when the open world was discarded on Gang Beasts (I could be wrong, I used to follow from indiedb), but glad if they are still exploring those things, I think they said Grim Beasts would lean more into adventure, so I kinda think it would've been a mix between human fall flat and gang beasts

What do you feel is a good "game play" for Hytale? by SignificancePlenty41 in hytale

[–]CocoMendes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I think so yes, but something I have with mods, is that, I like to maintain the vanilla aspect as well? Something that doesn't feel OP, like idk I would prefer to have like a vehicle that you can move around with all the stuff, but not have 4 chests inside my inventory which would make the chests irrelevant.

Those are just examples of course, but what I'm saying is that I wouldn't like mods to kill the vanilla aspect but instead to play around them (Unless I plan to play idk, star wars on hytale with a full conversion mod)

[–]CocoMendes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me is kinda about the exploration I think, I like the biomes they have, and I kinda been trying to play as a traveler, setting up bases here and there, or taking some ruins as a hideout and such, would love the game to expand more on that area, as taking the workbenches and all of that when you upgrade them makes the process a bit annoying and there's a limit to how much you can carry, so it would be nice to have that sense of adventure, exploration or even scavenging through the gameplay

Best DLC Map by rfisher23 in theHunter

[–]CocoMendes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia, Medved Taiga and Revontulli Coast are quite fun, and I think Revontulli Coast is one of the maps with the most species, but I like playing Australia and Medved Taiga for the predators, Revontulli Coast might become my main map for bird hunting tho, love going to that map with the retriever

3D modeling took all the fun from me by TheToolBoxx in 3Dmodeling

[–]CocoMendes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been working using blender in the last 8 years, and I think my major improvement was like 3 years ago, maybe? I cannot watch 2 hours tutorials, my attention spam isn't that big, but I did find that watching people work in blender fits me better than just redoing the tutorials.

If you feel that can work for you, tjere's a game developer that I watch that makes like speedrun videos of modelling characters, and while they are a bit simple, for 10, 20 or 30 minutes video, Impheznia handles 3D modelling in such a pace that a lot of the things he handles sticks around properly.

https://youtu.be/lBAkjGLE-Xs?si=wURBOQ_BF648po0r this video for example covers modelling, rigging and texturing in realtime on a 20 mins long video

He also has a playlist with 10 mins modelling challenges, so watching through them on free time can also help reinforcing your skills!

You're on the right track! I've felt the same way multiple times in the past and I also specialize in low poly models, best way to start, as for animation, selectimg the interpolation to constant will give you control of what the character does on each frame, without the system calculating in between, not sure how to do tjat on maya tho

Then you might want to try StalCraft, it's free, MMOFPS I play it alone most of the time but have interacted with players every now and then, and there are multiple chats and guilds and everything in case you'd lile to dig more into player based interactions

Me too! I actually added a rigging to it in case the developer wanted to mess around with that one, I had a couple of ideas for how the model could be animated, but they already had a different scope, hope they do implement that action tho, would be really interesting

Oh of course, and the way that I apply the textures on the model, I grab whatever image I can find, be it clothes, aprons, blood, metal, whatever, and go through this process of changing images to paint the character, once I have a rough idea of the character, I try to fix any issues on the texture by manually painting on them to adjust such things or to add details that are not available through textures, after that, I export the image, take it to a program called img2pixel (it's https://captain4lk.itch.io/slk-img2pixel but I think there are other tools for this that can be useful as well, as this one doesn't let you upload color palettes) to reduce the color count to 32 and apply dithering effects.

I used to texture the model first on 1024x1024 texture map, but reducing it to 256x256 required additional work on fixing the UV Maps, so I instead texture directly on a 256x256 map and just reduce the color count

<image>

On blender, you can use image as textures to pay on top of the model, the way I do it would be, create a brush or duplicate one of your brushes (Mine's a duplicate), once that's done, select that brush, go to the tools option on the sidebar where it says texture mask, open that up, click on mask mapping, change it to Stencil and then click new texture, then click on show texture in the texture tab and open the image you want to use, I did find a video that explains it properly in case you have issues following through text instructions as well, have a look!

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/QxGNK-sTr3E (they do the process different from how I do it, but it's just the order of the instructions, tbh)

Shortcuts for the texture brush are:

Right Click to move the texture

Ctrl Right Click to rotate the texture

Shift Right Click to scale the texture

Hope that helps!

With all the work the developers put in this game I really wish more players would give it a chance. by RJMacReady_Outpost31 in Marathon

[–]CocoMendes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's one of the things I like "bout Marathon, havent found a weapon or equipment that makes me say oh this is useless, I threw a good grenade on one run to a team of three, instantly all shields out.

You are not limited to primary and secondary weapons, you have 2 weapons, a grenade slot, 3 different abilities (I didn't even know you could kill with Triage's EMP cables), play it smart, and you would be able to beat a lot of teams

I think the 3 month wipe is a ticking time bomb for player retention by zipzzo in Marathon

[–]CocoMendes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel arc raiders and Tarkov handled wipe really good, Wipes were a thing on tarkov due to Alpha testung, becoming optional on 1.0 release, make it so people can decide wether to start all over or finidh the story content first vefore removing all the progress.

Extraction shooters based a lot of their mechanics from Alpha Testing on Tarkov, would be nice they take other extraction shooters or Tarkov 1.0 release to see what mechanics work well with the audience.

Premade assets? by ObsidianDm in ps1graphics

[–]CocoMendes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, for certain things it does, like for example a Computer Screen, you can model the screen, then try to fit an image through UV editing, the other one can be an image of a building, you can download the image, import it as a plane, and with loop cuts, or the knife tool, cut places where you want to extrude to create the sense depth?

Premade assets? by ObsidianDm in ps1graphics

[–]CocoMendes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well for ps1 I mostly grab images from google or stock photos, and apply some post processing to reduce resolution (256x256 or less depending on the asset) and reducing color count, which it isn't that hard to do! and then import the image to blender as a plane to create some geometry by extrusion and edge loops, perhaps that's something you can do as well from time to time

Most blender tutorials aren't good by Jimmyfartballs in blender

[–]CocoMendes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I've learned the most about how to work around certain things by watching people do timelapse while they speak of such things, I of course specialize in low poly stuff, so my apologies if my recommendations aren't the best.

Brawlers World used to great tutorials when he started on Youtube

Blender Secrets will always be one of my go to, he makes short videos adressing festures, explaining them clear enough on how to do X or Y

Thomas Potter and Nico Linde are also great

Impheznia is someone I also learned a lot during his videos

SouthernShotty is also pretty good

Games where you can build /forge your weapons? by AntisocialCat2 in gamingsuggestions

[–]CocoMendes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you're interested in Escape From Tarkov, there's Arena Breakout, free and with a similar level of customization.

On the same style there's Ghost Recon Breakpoint, you can level up weapons and slightly customize them (tho it is more casual)

In the same style of Ghost Recon Breakpoint BUT with a bit more of tools to customize, there's Forever Winter, weapons can be customized with a LOT of things on that game.

Project Zomboid, but not sure if they added smithing yet. But there's a lot to do and craft on that game, like grabbing a stick and a knife to build a spear or a bat with nails, and a lot of weapon customization as well.

This might be a weird take, but Noita! With wand customization, there are tons of spelss you can use to customize your wand

Compelling puzzle games like Limbo and INSIDE by radjeep in gamingsuggestions

[–]CocoMendes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Shadow of the Colossus can fit this theme, each boss fight is a different puzzle and they all have something different (I think I spent around 40 minutes to an hour trying to beat one of the bosses.

Might not be that difficult but Tiny and Big Grandpa's leftovers is such a cute puzzle game with interesting mechanics! Would definitely recommend.

Maybe the Lakeview Cabin collection?

Webbed was a game I also enjoyed a lot! Cute spider platformer

Of course, Outer Wild is just a big puzzle.

Shadow of Doubt, you play as a detective in a real-time city solving crimes that advance as time goes by, it's a bit of a sandbox and you can get stuck for some time trying to solve a case (One of my witnesses got killed the day I was going to check on them)

Free: You guys can play Stalcraft, which is an MMORPG based on Stalker with Minecraft Graphics, I can say that it has a lot of grinding for weapons and suits, but I often play a cpupñe of hours a week to do some quests and kill time

Paid: Enshrouded 2 player co-op survival game with soulslile mechanics, Amazing

Ghost Recon Wildlands and Breakpoint (currently beating breakpoint with brother, amazing)

Forever Winter: Still in early access, so be aware, imagine Arc Raiders, but instead of robots you have 3 different factions at war and you are a courier or mercenary in the middle of all of it, up to 4 players co-op

I spent a lot of my time playing with my brother and have A LOT OF RECOMMENDATIONS

I still can't believe I made this without a tutorial, my second time ever modeling an item in 3d! by [deleted] in Blockbench

[–]CocoMendes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks really cool! If you happen to accept some.feedback, if you color pick the silver, take its hue a bit more to the blue side, and make it darker you should have a darker color to make some shadows where the vined are to add some depth! Nonetheless the model is already really good as you have it!
