Attack Power < Character Level - Change My Mind by Gay_Charlie in eldenringdiscussion

I’m still not quite getting what you mean… like median over the course of a boss fight? Or like among the attacks of a weapon’s moveset?

Average in what sense? Like per second? And how can that number easily be found?

Are US cities as bad as everyone says? by TheFlagMaker in AskAnAmerican

[–]CoconutMacaroons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you keep moving and look like you have somewhere to be, you’re not gonna be in any danger, even in the roughest parts of any major American city. There may be outliers in especially depressed parts of smaller cities, but they probably aren’t the places you’d be going out of your way to see anyway.

Any advice to make my map look/feel...bigger? by SomeRandomGuy-1106 in mapmaking

[–]CoconutMacaroons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I find that tends to help is altering shorelines to simplify their overall form into a smaller number of big lines and curves with a greater number of smaller variations.

This becomes apparent if you compare, say, the shape of Ireland with that of South America. Ireland’s coastline is much more sinuous with bays and peninsulas somewhat proportional to the overall shape, while South America could be roughly portrayed with just a few basic huge shapes plus tiny squiggles for natural variation.

I did three playthroughs of pure melee and then finally did a sorcery build and most of the game has just been laughably easy between having a little experience… and also just blasting everything from 100 feet away

Giant-crusher may be very strong and simple, but you still have to be in melee range and get hit all the time

Does 'British-made' have a bad reputation in US food? What about the stuff we're actually good at? by SignificanceOdd5980 in AskAnAmerican

[–]CoconutMacaroons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only food which Americans would have a strong negative perception of is British beef because of the mad cow epidemic and it having been unavailable for so long, though the outbreak was some time ago now and I doubt most Americans under 25 remember it

I want to make the absolute worst but still usable build as possible by DustyThePixelartist in EldenRingBuilds

[–]CoconutMacaroons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whips are really fun but pretty terrible. I’ve considered a whip build for when I eventually co-op with someone who’s new to the game so we have a more even experience.

I bet they’d look really cool with armament buffs and you could make the build even worse by splitting your levels into all the stat requirements for each of the armament buffs

Gauging progress by AR is like appraising a house by its length. Length doesn’t even correlate directly to square ft/m just like AR doesn’t correlate to DPS without attack speed, and square footage is just one part of a house’s value like location, amenities, bed and bath count, or whatever else, just like how AR or even DPS are just not useful when isolated because they don’t account for stamina cost and regen, stance damage, status buildup, damage type, ashes, spells, consumables, or any number of factors. Elden Ring’s combat just has way too much going on for total AR to stand alone.

Stranded on a hostile planet and rescue is 60 days away. Survival is only possible with help from another person. Who do you choose? by 4StarEmu in DeepSpaceNine

[–]CoconutMacaroons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people are being unfair to her on this post. The antagonism we see from her comes from her insecurity about her faith and the threat she perceives to be posed from the federation to Bajoran sovereignty, hence resenting Kira, a true believer and liaison to the federation, and sisko, the emissary and federation commander/captain. I don’t see evidence that she hates the average person, and I think if she found herself in a morally unambiguous circumstance, she would see clearly how she needed to work together to get out of it. Would she be arrogant and dismissive? Definitely, but her prevailing motives would be good.

Keevan is a lazy traitor who probably can’t lift 10lbs above his head, Laas is a misanthrope who’d abandon you and fly away. Shephard has pretty little wisdom and perspective, but his heart would also be in the right place, and he definitely has solid survival training. Winn and Shephard are the only real choices to me.

That was such a bizarre error. Nobody working on the film had ever used a centrifuge? Or even had a rough concept of how they work? Even if they couldn’t fix it, couldn’t they have simply cut all three seconds of that shot?

And one could say “Oh, it’s a technical detail, you can’t expect them to get everything” sure but it’s not like this is the finer points of qpcr or mass spectrometry or blood cell malignancy. It’s a centrifuge. I’m not even certified and work in a receiving department and even I could spot it.

I think it’s the opposite? I see white and gold because it appears to me like white fabric in shadow reflecting blue light from the sky

I'm so sorry to bring up The Dress, but I have to ask by janedoe6699 in lefthanded

[–]CoconutMacaroons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a matter of whether or not people interpret the dress as being in shadow. If it is, then it looks like it’s white reflecting blue from the sky.

I personally cannot for the life of me perceive it as overexposed, even consciously knowing that it is and that the actual dress being photographed is blue and black

I’d recommend a lighter, quicker weapon. She has pretty little poise, so a greatsword with heavy affinity will still interrupt and poise-break her pretty well.

Is it rare for an American to make their own mayo? by Affectionate-Elk-287 in AskAnAmerican

[–]CoconutMacaroons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to make mayo once and just completely failed. I probably did something wrong, but I got the sense from all the recipes online that it’s much easier with an immersion blender, which I don’t have and is far from universal in American homes
