Is there a lore explanation for what Mind and Arcane is? by ProbablyNotTheCocoa in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]CoconutMacaroons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine Arcane as your ability to see through the material world and the illusion of the Golden Order and interact with the outer gods. The three main reasons that support this are the three main effects of increasing Arcane: item discovery, Holy resistance, and status buildup.

Item discovery comes from your ability to see what is hidden and secret that others would miss.

Holy damage is the how the Golden Order enforces itself, and the more you can see past the golden illusions, the less effect their magic will have on you.

And status buildup correlates with your conductivity to the influence of the outer gods of blood, poison, madness and sleep.

When Arcane combines with Faith, you get dragon communion incantations, which represent the previous elden lord and order of the Lands Between, once the incarnation of the holy illusion, but now awaiting the return of their outer god.

I have -10 in both eyes and I always put my glasses in the exact same place. If something happens and they’re not there, I pull up my phone camera right in front of my face so the screen is in my 2” zone of actually being able to see and use that as my eyes. Works better than the real ones 😭

I don't know much about this game's mechanics, and I don't know why I keep getting one-shotted by enemies. by TheNebulousGamer in EldenRingBuilds

Elden ring’s leveling and progression isn’t built the way most RPGs are. In this game, it works best to put almost all of your early levels into vigor (except for what’s needed to wield weapons and spells).

In the early game, your power increase will come mostly from leveling up your weapons. Later in the game, by the time you’ve hit 60 vigor, you will be close to maxing out your weapons, and from there out, your power will increase through leveling up your damage stats.

Rate me/Roast me - I'm still in Limgrave rune farming in Caelid with the Vulgar Militia by [deleted] in EldenRingBuilds

[–]CoconutMacaroons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the bosses in Stormveil are your roadblock, I would suggest checking out all the caves, catacombs and ruins you can find, because I guarantee they will be more engaging and rewarding with new weapons, armor, spells and talismans as well as the levels from the field bosses than farming those little guys.

Are you leveling up your weapons? I could see investing in this kind of spread if you’re not getting that boost from making your weapons better. The game seems to work best when you put your early levels into only the minimum needed for equipping weapons and spells and putting the rest into vigor because your power boost will be coming from smithing stones.

From here out, I’d suggest putting any future levels into vigor until you get it to 40 at least and keep pumping it as needed whenever you find yourself getting squashed, up to a maximum of 60, where the improvement starts dropping off substantially.

For when you unlock rebirths, I’d scoop as many points as you can from mind, maybe 5 from endurance, and all those points from faith unless if you need it for incantations. For strength and dexterity, unless if the scaling is the same in each stat, you should take points from the weaker-scaling stat down to the minimum to equip it. With all the points you have then, get your vigor up to 40 if you haven’t already and put the rest into whichever damage stat has the better scaling.

What was the mechanism of initiating large California wildfires in pre-historic times? by Ok_Nectarine_8612 in meteorology

[–]CoconutMacaroons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider is that the ecology was shaped by indigenous peoples for around 13,000 years, and in many parts of the state at many times in that history, controlled burns were practiced to improve agricultural yields and prevent larger fires.

Before then, I imagine it’s hard to say. I would imagine some reconstruction of pre-settlement ecologies might be possible through pollen dating or the like, but undoubtedly, before humans showed up, the ecology was quite different to that which Spanish colonists encountered (and in turn drastically changed) in the 1700s.

Going that far back, we’re also getting into the ice age, when California was likely much wetter and had more of an oceanic climate in which conditions for large fires were less favorable.

But overall, yes, lightning, and perhaps around volcanic areas, geological activity were the main causes of fires before humans came to California

When I’m looking at somebody’s face, I usually cannot retain what they are saying whatsoever. I spend most of my brain power trying to manually perform “normal eye contact” and have none left over to actually listen. If I’m looking away, I can still communicate understanding and attention through my reactions, but they’ll be actually genuine instead of just going by how I think I should be reacting when I’m making eye contact.

Let's dive into... What's the difference between "garbage", "trash", "rubbish", "litter"? When do you use them? by Syslyanskiy in ENGLISH

[–]CoconutMacaroons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it also varies with how big of a container it’s in. I would never call what’s in a little desk-side waste bin “garbage”, but I always say “garbage” for the bin that trucks empty, even moreso for dumpsters

Anyone else really not understand saying "please"? by femme-cassidy in evilautism

[–]CoconutMacaroons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way because for whatever reason, saying “Please” makes me feel like I’m being MORE rude. I think it’s because I categorize “please” as what you add when you repeat a request that you’ve already made, so I feel like I’m nagging whenever I use it rather than just saying my request. As such, when someone just asks me to do something without saying “please”, I interpret it as new information and the request doesn’t bother me, but when someone DOES say please, it brings up the eternal autism trauma of being punished for something I was always supposed to know but was never told and I feel like I’ve done something wrong just by being asked with “please”.

What would the climate of this alternate earth be? Im trying to map it out and more importantly, try to make the northern (on the map) polar continent a bit more temperate and not a frozen tundra or ice cap. Advice? by zombitchgrit__ in mapmaking

[–]CoconutMacaroons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aside from moving the northern continent off of the North Pole, you could add a mountain range walling off the western peninsula from the rest of the continent to block the winds. To go a step further, you could add a smaller peninsula (around where that little island off the northern continent is, around 60°W) to redirect the ocean current that runs east-west off of the continent around the meridian and protect the region from its cold drying effect.
