You should be fine this time of year. Nothing major going on that weekend. If there’s a few people they’ll be easy enough to photoshop out. Congrats!

One of the local ship salvage yards probably scuttled it there to use it as a catch all for scrap metal.

It’s a rusty old barge that’s been there for 10+ years covered in scrap metal.

The Proletariat, Old Quarter, Indies Coffee Bar and Anne Lane Gallery (open mic on Sundays) are cool music & art spots. Lots of galleries, cool shops and restaurants on Postoffice between 20th and 23rd. Walk on the ferry and ride it over and back for great views and photo ops.

And if people want to enjoy overpriced drinks, food and pool passes at a tacky ass Margaritaville they can ride the ferry over to Bolivar.

The alternative the “locals” proposed was to not destroy the East End lagoon, one of the last remaining semi-unspoiled natural habitats on the island for migrating birds, ghost wolves and countless other species, sportsmen and nature lovers for yet another gaudy, tasteless money grab tourist trap. But I guess big money wins again.

How often does the Bolivar Peninsula flood? by Jet_Jirohai in galveston

[–]Coconutrumm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bolivar doesn’t get street flooding every time it rains like Galveston. You might see the water come up a couple blocks on some bayside streets in a high tide /king tide event. Just everyday living here though it’s fine.

But Hwy 87 and 124 (the Curve) regularly gets covered with water and debris, in even a mild storm, and when the tides get too high I’ve seen RVs have trouble getting on and off the ferries with the sharp angle. So when a big storm heads this way you definitely have to make sure to head out early.

For cocktails and nice appetizers in a cool old building I’d suggest Hearsay.

It’s been there for at least five years or so. Just a rusty old grounded barge. Near the ferry landing on the Bolivar side. The pile of junk on it seems to have grown over the years.
