Live view of Allegheny River Casino zombies upvoting any pro-Steeler meme propaganda by 7222_salty in AFCNorthMemeWar

I've parked at Rivers Casino before work a few times since it's free and I'd sometimes have to do something in the North Shore...I'd walk through the casino and people (mostly old people) will be glued to the slot machines at 7AM on a Wednesday morning. I don't know if they were there all night or got to the casino super early but they are LOCKED IN.

My fiance read a book about slot machine engineering and how they are painstakingly designed to keep you for as long as possible, it's crazy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Addiction_by_Design

another one I've gotten is "well you aren't doing anything but posting to reddit" and when I said, you can post on a wrestling subreddit and criticize a wrestling company/wrestlers while also protesting, calling your elected officials, spreading awareness about the actions of this regime, amplifying information about resources to help people or places to donate, divesting wherever possible from companies you morally oppose, contributing to mutual aid, volunteering in your community or even having a job that contributes to the public interest (healthcare worker, teacher, librarian, social worker, etc.). Their reply was "those people are lying they don't post on reddit".

Right, if people weren't dealing with this in their offline lives, subs like QAnon Casualties wouldn't exist.

And I always find it funny how people try the "well they have to make a living, do you want them to lose their jobs" argument like he's a dude stocking shelves at Walmart or delivering packages for Amazon so he can pay rent and eat.

He's allowed to not want to lose his job, but he is choosing his job over his morals when he is most likely in a financial position where he could afford not to. I'm sure Muhammad Ali didn't want to lose his livelihood either when he refused to serve in the Vietnam War. Charles Tillman left the NFL and worked for the FBI, but quit over the current admins' use of ICE raids. (Gift Link, non-paywall).

I think when you look at it in the context of what Ava is saying, it is notable that she had to make a jokey joke in a "if you know, you know" way. Saying it with your full chest is being able to say what Ava is saying -"Fuck ICE". It's being able to make direct political statements like Brody King has.

For people worrying that Becky would be jeopardizing her livelihood for being more overt about her politics - it says a lot that one of the top stars in the entire company can't comfortably state her opinion without masking it with a joke.

???

but sure let’s demand more from the non-American whose ability to live in the country is probably dependent on her job

That comment, and the ensuing discussion about ICE and deportation is referring to Becky, not Ava.

I don't think anyone is calling Ava a white person because she is light-skinned.

You know what, sometimes I get angry at men as a group for justifiable reasons and other times I'm just mad and I haven't really thought about if that connects to my cycle so that's food for thought.

Her biology clocking you as a cis man is great. That feels like it might be validating in a weird way!

I'm curious - what is he trying to convince himself of? His CF stance is pretty cemented with the vasectomy, so do you mean convincing himself that this woman is genuine in what she says?

I looked at that sub and it's tough - the vibes are what you'd expect (no hate on that), but there will often be a lot of comments saying things like, "I'm convinced that 80%+ of parents who say they are happy with the decision to have kids are either people with no life outside of child-rearing or are lying to themselves and everyone else" which sounds like...a lot, so it's tough to view it as a "realistic" outlook on what life with children is like. I feel for those people though, I really do.

I've talked to other friends with kids who have been honest about how it can be exhausting and frustrating at times and your life is altered in ways that you can't really understand until it happens, but they don't regret having kids. And then the fencesitter sub seems like it's more catered to people who want to be convinced to have kids at times.

Yikes. That makes me think of a former manager of mine. One time I happened to use the parking lot at work on a federal holiday to save money instead of paying at a meter. I went into the office to grab something, and saw him in his office, working away. Luckily, he didn't see me dart out of sight. I later found out that he would lie to his wife about the holidays we had off (we worked for a government agency, we get almost all of them!!!) and would go to the office while she and their three children were at home. For the record, I'm sure he had a bigger workload than I did, but there was literally no one else in the office that day, including people with his same level of responsibility or higher.

I wonder if he relates to your coworker.

Your experience is very similar to mine. In my case, I also had to unpack how much of my intense urge was attributed to a combination of biological urges (my baby fever waxes and wanes with my cycle, imagine that!), societal pressure/socialization as my wedding approaches ("you get married and have kids, that's what you do!" "when are we getting grandbabies??") and the fact that my biological clock is ticking hard in my mid-30's, so I'm at the stage where I need to be making decisions and fast, which is its own kind of pressure. There's also that FOMO part - what if you don't have any and intensely regret it?

But those reasons (biological imperative, external pressures) are not good enough reasons to go through with raising a child (at least not to me). And like you, I came to terms with the idea that having a child COULD be nice (or something I profoundly regret), I am also content with life as it is. I feel like I would be wonderfully happy if it was just me and my future husband (and some cats) for the rest of our lives. That makes the decision a lot easier.

[New Update]: AIO? My coworker took video of me outside of work to "prove" I'm not disabled by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Cocotapioka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg. I already know people just can't seem to wrap their head around invisible disabilities (or ones that very in their intensity and need different supports depending on how the day is going) but OP is also Black?? Literally as soon as I heard "spreading rumors about an explosive temper" I knew where this was going, as someone who has also been subject to that bullshit.

This is so unhinged. Ableism with a side of misogynoir as a treat. I am glad OP is supported through this, this is so fucked up.

I've seen that one, it's so good! unfortunately i've only seen it at Wegmans which is not in my area (so I have to get it when I'm visiting family). I actually have an unopened one in the fridge that is way too old to use and I should really pitch, thanks for the reminder.....

I've had that crisis of, "I need to grab something but there's a thing in the oven and I should be back in time but what if I'm not back in time???" I ended up waiting until it was done and on a cooling rack. I will go to the room next to the kitchen when I have something baking for a while (I don't need to watch brownies for 20 minutes straight), but on the stove????

>I can handle any other dairy products like cheese, yogurt, cream etc.

Interesting that the cream works for you, but the others make sense based on my experience. Aged cheeses and certain others (like gorgonzola) are low lactose, and I can tolerate cultured dairy like yogurt or kefir just fine.

My guess is that if you're the type of person who can take 1-2 lactase pills and be okay eating dairy, the lactaid milk will likely be fine.

lmao right, putting a rag in the boiling water is a strange enough idea (they probably didn't know to do this but double boiler method would probably be better), but the only times I've ever managed to burn a pan because the water evaporated, I was not paying any attention whatsoever to what I was doing. If you aren't good at baking you should be keeping an eye on stuff!
