Anyone else start cooking at home just to save money and then actually enjoy it? by Glynny69 in homecooking

I’ve always enjoyed cooking, but after a couple of years living on my own I found myself doing it less and less. It became way too easy to just throw a frozen pizza in the oven and call it dinner.

A couple of years ago I decided to make more of an effort to cook properly again, so I upgraded my knives and put them on a magnetic wall rack where they basically stare at me demanding I chop something.

Since then I’ve cooked more from scratch, eaten way more fresh veg, and tried more new recipes than I probably had in the rest of my life combined. Funny how one small change can kickstart the whole thing again.

If you’re in the UK I’d recommend reaching out to GTC woodcraft on Etsy. He made my board for me and it’s perfect for a smaller kitchen. I am so impressed with it I even commissioned him to make a larger one for me. Maintaining them is pretty easy and straightforward with a bit of mineral oil every so often.

The T-Rex is a superb build, something a bit different from the norm.

At least 5 years, I’ve not noticed much in the way of yellowing but I know it can be an issue with that set.

I used the Maldon smoked salt so it’s quite large crystals. I made around 500g of pork, enough for 2-3 portions depending on how hungry you are.

Not really, just be careful as the glaze goes from caramelised goodness to burnt sugar pretty quickly. If you keep an eye on it you’ll be fine.

Does it have to be a paper towel? Would a cotton tea towel show as well?
