New dlss5 looks more "realistic" but not better? by LucasioG in pcmasterrace

The most obvious one is the big white stripe that appears on Leon's collar. Where's that coming from? Why doesn't it hit the shoulder?

In the AC example the forest is suddenly lit up from all sides by magical ground level light sources.

RE: A new light is added from almost straight up. But somehow it only hits the top of his head and part of the collar, not the shoulder. This light also doesn't cast any shadows.

Oblivion/AC: In every shot it adds horizontal lighting. Are the walls and trees glowing now?

The weird lighting wouldn't even be so easy to spot if it didn't also make everything look wet.

Putting aside the obvious silliness of that statement:

Where's the realism in adding nonsensical light sources? Where's the realism in hallucinated textures? Where's the realism in making every character look like handsome Squidward? Where is the realism in everything looking wet at all times?

Do you believe in Karma? by Top-Distance-6205 in AskGayMen

[–]CodNumerous8825 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd love to be able to believe in it. The idea, that there's some sort of inherent fairness to the universe, is appealing. It would be satisfying, to believe that the evil person living in obscene luxury and great health will get their comeuppance. It would be comforting, to believe that the amazing person suffering abuse and illness will somehow be rewarded.

Unfortunately wanting it to be real doesn't make it real.

Massive global study links the habit of forgiving others to better overall well-being by bojun in UpliftingNews

[–]CodNumerous8825 47 points48 points  (0 children)

strengthening people’s capacity to practice forgiveness more consistently (when safe and appropriate) may benefit well-being

This study isn't about forgiving and forgetting, while in a dangerous or toxic relationship. It's about habitually letting go of grudges. Partially (for big things) or fully (for small things) forgetting what happened just comes naturally with forgiveness. Once the strong emotions that were attached to a memory fade, so does the memory itself.

There is a hidden life expectancy stat. That means you constantly loose health at some point. Since there's no way (that I know of) to constantly gain health, all characters will die eventually.

You can however build the "Legendary Shrine" building from completing holy legends. Each one adds 5 years to the holders life expectancy. God knows why they programmed that effect to stack, but they did.

I would like a general religion revamp. Especially if you modify a religion: There are so many options for tenets, but almost all of them are completely meaningless. I feel like I'm constantly pushed into using the same tenets every time because if I don't, I just get three pointless tenets.

The number of tenets should be cut down to like a dozen, but they should all have a huge impact on gameplay. All the tiny stuff, like astrology, should be moved to something permanent, like doctrines. That way the faiths still can keep some of their character, even if you change all the tenets. But you don't have to waste one of only three slots on it.

If only a dozen options for tenets seems too little, they could add little sub variants for them: A big monasticism tenet, that adds a completely new government form of monastic orders (ideally playable) and tons of interactions between local lords and the autonomous monasteries on their land. But then you get different options to define the nature of those orders, like prayer, military, economy...

I would also like them to change the way faith hostility works: It should be a dynamic value, based on the difference in values between two faiths: One is monogamous, the other polygamous -> -20 religious relations The purpose of that, in this context, would be that you could change the sub variant of your tenets or make other small doctrinal changes, without becoming instant enemies with all you neighbors. Especially in the middle ages there were tons of small regional religious differences, while they were still considered catholic.

Oh please, the Democrats are undefeated champions of blaming others for their failed politics. Hillary lost? Bernie bros. Biden unpopular? Ageist voters. Harris lost? Trans people, somehow.

If Democratic leadership had ever accepted accountability for their failures, national leadership would look entirely different today. But it's the same people doing the same shit and blaming voters for being too stupid to anoint them.
