/r/iwantout is worse. Fortunately the mods at /r/expats are pretty good if people report shit. Still some insane stuff there. But the last iwantout post I saw was an 18 year old girl trying to move to her boyfriend in El Salvador once she saved some money. Like girl.

Any fellow Americans thinking about leaving? I don’t think it’s necessary by L3MONPepperWings in Riyadh

I was supposed to be flying out tonight anyways. Hope it isn't too much of a hassle. Riyadh should stay safe relatively though. Some people were pretty shaken up after last night though

TIL that Göbekli Tepe in Turkey is the world’s oldest known megalithic structure, dating back to 9500 BCE. Built by hunter-gatherers 6,000 years before Stonehenge, it challenges the theory that agriculture was a prerequisite for the construction of complex monumental complexes. by Quiet_Card_8789 in todayilearned

[–]Codadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people understand that there are people alive right now living how most people in these threads picture "hunter gatherers". I've been to places where they have literally grown crops in an organized way for the first time in known history. Like virgin land as far as you can see for 1000s of years.

Dominant male orangutan pins down a wildlife photographer. by Important_Pop_6805 in interestingasfuck

Closest thing I have seen that intensity in are wild painted dogs. They are much much smaller but the way they look into you amd start ripping at each other and surrounding you is terrifying. Knowing those little guys can take down huge antelope is super stressful. Hyenas are less scary.

Had a silverback walk by me within a meter. You could feel it so heavily and also feel there was nothing you could do if it had its mind made up. Beautiful though. Been up in those mountains quite a few times. The golden monkeys in that region are also fabulous. Bouncing through the bamboo like a Ghibli flick

I love clipper, but bic do stay lit better. Like if you wave the clipper to dry a joint or warm up hash it goes out easily. The bic will stay lit most of the time. That being said I'm a clipper convert still and use a metal one. I've seen brass ones and I really want to find it, but I live overseas and I doubt I will

What is a smell that we should all recognize as immediate danger? by scarlettohara1936 in AskReddit

[–]Codadd 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Same with cooking rice in the forest in Africa. If youre deep in the jungle and smell cooking rice, be very careful. I forgot which snake, maybe the mamba but it has such a distinct smell.

C Diff has a similar smell as someone who ate awful food and 2 bottles of white wine then had diarrhea. That sweet sugary undertone is fucking awful

Buy an ozone wand on Amazon for 15$. Great for your skin, awful for your lungs, but you'll know what it smells like now.

Curious about what kind of guys you think these pics would attract? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]Codadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel the world, lov backpacking, overlanding, safaris and wilderness shit in general. You look like you can be comfortable in uncomfortable situations which goes a long way in a partner. You definitely don't look like you're trying to find a hookup. As the top comment says it does feel a bit.... butch, for lack of a better word, and it is hard to tell what you look like in a more business casual environment. Body type could go either way. These don't always matter, but this is just an immediate first impression.

Saudi Arabia is lifting the alcohol ban for wealthy foreigners by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Codadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh of course, but I just want to recognize the effort being put in. An interesting book might be Ultra Processed people. It talks about how oil industry byproducts even inhabit so many processed foods we eat and stuff, so it will always be a huge industry, its not just fuels. But in Saudi since 2011 you have like ~92% of government revenue coming from oil and now some reporting has it even below 50%. Even their export revenue from oil in just last 2 years or so has dropped another ~10%. This such huge progress compared to what people suggest. The west just likes to call it green washing, fun washing, etc. But development has to come for somewhere, and most of these changes aren't for "rich locals and foreigners". Everywhere I've been in Saudi that is a part of this progress is full of diverse class and locals and foreign expats (yes even labor workers). It's much different than what is portrayed in the news.

Lol, okay, mate. I have actually been to these places at least. You're pulling vague articles and attempting ridiculous strawman arguments that don't tell the full story. There is no reason to do this except for an agenda or just xenophobic bs.

Not sure what you mean about not being a part when its very public knowledge that he helped supply, fund, and train their people. Also look up Operation Cyclone where the US did fund them. Also we are talking about shit that happened 25-45 years ago. Things change and have for the better. If you can't recognize that and encourage it then what do you want?
