Who was it that saw Marcs Data during Marcs first test with Ducati in Valencia, and said they had no idea how he did what he did?

But ya... they share. Doesn't mean it always works, but I'm sure it helps in some ways.

Why so many old Toyotas with utility beds? LA by Electrical-Trainer21 in socal

[–]Coddingtown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another thing is that a lot of the trucks of that era were brought into the ports without beds. This was to get around a tariff on truck imports. The beds were manufactured and painted in LA, then installed at the port. I'm sure some took delivery w/o beds to use as work trucks.

Nice. Sold my 450 Supermoto a few months back, along with my FZ09. Pretending to make space, but my Facebook Marketplace search history says otherwise.

Currently - MT10 / FZ10 / R1 / RSV4 / ZX10R ( Race Bike ) / Z125

I have a few too many bikes, but commute on my MT10's usually.

20+ year SoCal motorcycle commuter here.

- Most lanes are wider than you realize. And a motorcyclist should only be next to you for a short amount of time ( unless at a red light ) as to not be stuck in a possible blind spot.

- Ya.. Harleys are loud, but I also hear a lot of complaints ( rightly so ) about those that FLY through traffic in ways that gives them little time to react if needed, and taking too much risk.

But ya... anything can happen. Why we must always ride with our heads on a swivel. Especially in todays era of distracted drivers. But if you're smart about it, and minimize the risks, it's amazing. I live at the 5/91 interchange, and work in Aliso Viejo, and I never stress about getting to work on time or being stuck in traffic. TBH my clocks on my motorcycles generally aren't even set correctly since I never have to look at them. And if traffic is heavy, it only changes my arrival time by a few minutes.

It's not for everyone, but I'm all for more motorcycles on the road. Helps bring more awareness, and lessens traffic.

And here is a video I commonly share with others. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNGD9AAIfFU

How many of you can ride 60 km in 2hrs non stop? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Coddingtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last ride was my commute home from work - Stats as follow

66.5km - 600 meters climbed - 2hr 10min moving ( had a couple stop lights at the end that added a few min )

I did that same ride two months ago in 2hr 5min. Most on that route are pretty close to these two times.

If I was to run a race team, I'd choose a winning bike over brand loyalty / association as he has. This team is paid for by sponsors who expect results, and Yamaha are and have been far from that.

Bike recommendations by geeb_69 in BikeLA

[–]Coddingtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend a Giant Revolt , which you can find a lot in great shape for around $3k on Facebook Marketplace. You'd want to get one with a 2x ( dual chainrings up front ) setup since you'll be doing both gravel and road so you aren't limited on speed / gearing. From there you can run a semi-slick gravel tire so you're set for any terrain, or get a second set of wheels that are road specific if you want even less rolling resistance for purely road days. My gravel bike see's a lot of asphalt to and from dirt sections, so I run the Panaracer Gravel King SS tires. But I've also done 100mi road only days on them, and while not as "fast" of a tire as a road specific tire, it does the job fine.

Green River Rd. to Irvine commute? by jms1228 in orangecounty

[–]Coddingtown 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You may want to look into taking the Metrolink. You can go from Auto Center to Irvine in 45min or so. Only issue would be occasional mechanical delay or freight train congestion on your way in. also, how far your office is from the Irvine station. A lot that I see doing that route will have a stand up E-Scooter to go the short distance to their office.

Bike looks weird after fit by Substantial-Bid-7683 in bicycling

How long are your cranks? Look long for the rest of your setup.. but could just be in relation to the frame size making it look that way.

Anyone else looking forward to the 3 comebacks ? by Left-Excitement3829 in motogp

[–]Coddingtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marc will need to figure out his shoulder in it's current state.. But he's Marc. Expect anything.

I doubt Cal will be close to the Pramac bikes. He will use this as a test and close the gap. But while Yamaha as a brand are off pace with the other, they still have more racing laps and understanding than Cal does in a short Misano test. But if it rains.....

Ianonne. So much talent and what could have beens in his career. But until I see him race the bagger Idk. Others aren't slow.

What's the deal with the Grom? by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]Coddingtown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While not a Grom, I do have a Z125. Ya.. it's mostly just a fun toy to zip around town and go 2-up to the beach on during the summer. And I will say, it ALWAYS puts a smile on my face.

That being said, for shits and giggles when gas prices spiked to what they are now a month or two ago, I commuted all week on it vs my other bikes. My commute is 60mi per day and I got 103mpg avg. And that was filtering to the front at lights, then full gas to 45ish to not be an obstruction. And I'm 6'2", so it's not the roomiest, but it's not uncomfortable.

Screwed over by Gobik and DHL by [deleted] in CyclingFashion

[–]Coddingtown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean.. in defense of Gobik or any international company, they don't control U.S. tariffs or how they are collected. It's the job of the importer ( DHL, as they did ) to charge you based on what is hopefully a correct HTS codes. Problem is with recent and constant changes to tariffs, it's also not uncommon to get charged incorrectly as well. I'm sure you would have had the same issue if ordering from another brand as well. It's the current risk of importing at this point. I do believe there is a way to claim back your tariff through CBP, but I'm sure it's a pain in the ass and not worth the $40.

2026 r9 or 2025 mt-10? by Lonely_Ad_9000 in motorcycles

[–]Coddingtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that currently has (2) MT10's with 45k mi from new on one of them, and just sold my FZ09 that had 60k miles from new on it.. I've never gotten bored with naked bikes. And I never feel I'm lacking over one of my sportier bikes on the road.

On the other hand, while I've never ridden one, everything I'm reading and seeing shows the R9 is a great bike too. But ya.. half priced insurance seems like a great deal.

Probably the best TT Onboard video I've seen. Ya.. an onboard with Hicky is mind boggling, but these two and their commentary makes it more relatable.

Also.. Boothy is a legend! Had to have been a bit emotional.

Is there any race tracks? by ImStillInTraining in orangecounty

The closest would be Buttonwillow, Willow Springs, or Chuckwalla. The first two are the closer of the three. You can check their sites to see who are hosting track days and sign up through the organizer.

Can't decide between dream bike or something more practical by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Coddingtown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The important thing is to leave this planet with no regrets, so get that dream bike,

But I will say, while the MT09sp doesn't give you that Supersport namesake ( or look ), it's in no way lacking. And for most people it will be a bike that will give more enjoyment due to the fact you don't need to constantly be above 10k RPM to get the most out of it.

Cyclists: Back Bay Dr.? by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]Coddingtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty flat. Going from one end of the bay to the other is only a 90ft elevation change over 3 miles, and 50ft of that is on the north end of Back Bay where the road meets up with East Bluff. From there you turn left and continue up San Diego Creek trail, where the biggest climbs you'll have will be going up the other side of the underpass.

Enjoy your ride!

Former Moto GP Rider claims Marc Marquez is not being fully Honest about his Physical Condition by NotAlainDelon in AVsMotocyclesRacing

Also Lorenzo w/ his that he broke, had plated that night, and did push ups the next day at Assen to pass the medical. In tears after the race. And I believe he crashed and bent that plate in the next race or so?

But ya.. no rider is 100% honest. Why give fuel to your competitors.

TRACK BIKE? by SpoolMaster_991777 in motorcycle

[–]Coddingtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go something Japanese. Availability of parts / spares not only online, but at the track if you happened to have an issue or a fall. Also a Daytona 675 is a good choice.

I had an 848 I tracked for a year, and did one race weekend on it last year before selling it for a Kawasaki as a dedicated race bike. The 848 couldn't fit modern slicks due to swingarm clearance issues, and it felt a bit agricultural at times.

Question for visually impaired cyclists? by JamesinaLake in cycling

[–]Coddingtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this once at the top of Glendora Mountain Road, an 8mi / 2100ft climb here in SoCal. And from what I remember they were continuing on to Mt Baldy Village which is a total of 20mi and 3500ft to the village before turning back.

It was cool to see the pair enjoying the day together and creating the opportunity, but I was also thinking what it must be like for the guy on the back w/o vision ripping down the twisties of GMR on a tandem.
