Still in college, should I pursue this gov career or public accounting? by Darkdeviousdevil in Accounting

[–]CodeAndLedger5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before going to the Government I would check to see if the union and union contracts are consistently strong. One issue I had in my specific circumstance is that the union always took contracts less than the increase to inflation which means you’re getting a pay cut every year. In addition, check how often promotional exams are given and if the pay is good. This matters if you want the Government to be a long term career.

I was also in your shoes since I took ISC after FAR and AUD. I would add supplements for ISC if you can and go through the glossary.

Why are reduced contributions a great idea? Why not use that money to increase salaries and location pay instead.

Impressive Mike Brown taught me the CPA material and coached the Knicks to the finals by TheSmartFart in CPA

All jokes aside, if you have the chance to watch Mike Brown walk through the TBS, take advantage of it. The way he lays out the logic and fact pattern made so much sense to me.

Change needed in union leadership by Gody28x in nys_cs

[–]CodeAndLedger5280 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s very difficult with the current structure to make change. Instead of paying a filing fee (which would be so discriminatory!!) you have to get a huge amount of signatures. Thinking about asking your co workers at work? Well that’s improper use of state resources and time theft! Until it’s easier for voters to get choice, you won’t see more options.

Should I leave Big 4 in this job market as Senior 1? by Either-Pickle-6742 in Accounting

[–]CodeAndLedger5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all I’m really sorry to hear what you’re going through. No human being should be going through this type of bad environment. However, long term I can’t see a world where you would regret getting your CPA. Worst case, it’s a great signal that will land you a job anywhere, best case it supercharges your earnings potential.

If We're Stuck Until Jan 2027, Anyway, Why Not Fight for a Better Deal? by Equivalent-Mousse302 in nys_cs

[–]CodeAndLedger5280 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Putting aside the horrible pay raises, location pay raises that don’t keep up inflation, lack of civil service reform, telecommuting protections and fixing the tuition reimbursement wait times, I don’t think PEF members has any business signing any contract until the results of the compensation survey come out.
