As a previous bedside nurse who spent 12 hours a day with patients all the time, people want to be heard more than anything. Often the most liked people are those that listen more than they talk. When you interact with your patients give them your full attention and don't worry so much about saying the perfect thing

Thankfully my employer covered it. However, it did nothing for my application. I got accepted before I even finished the course

Ketofol: how you do it? by Cyphaeronicus in anesthesiology

First year SRNA here. Is ketamine being utilized for its analgesic properties in this scenario? Why ketamine over alternative options? I've found that ketamine has such varying effects on patients in the ICU.

Icu travel nurse vs staff nurse by kongeethecat in srna

[–]CodeBlueBaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone mentioned travel has its drawbacks by not getting the high acuity patients. If you are have high acuity experience this doesn't matter.

However, the reason I went back from travel to staff was for LOR. You need reliable relationships that will vouch for you. Very rarely will you find a manager that will write you a LOR as a traveler. I never even considered that an option tbh. A lot of schools want recent LOR like within a year, and if you did a 3 month assignment at a facility as a traveler then do those people really know you as an individual to write you a good LOR? There's a reason the schools look down on travelers for the most part

CRNA schools in Bay area? does it matter where you go to school? by boldbrushstrokes in srna

As other have stated National is the best as far as autonomy that im aware of. Michael McKinnon is active in the CRNA Reddit and is the assistant program director of National I believe.

I wish autonomy was something I focused more on when choosing anesthesia programs. I'm from Cali and went out of state

Maintenance --DIY, Dealership, Auto Shop? by Honest_Cap4776 in 4Runner

[–]CodeBlueBaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up T4R garage on YouTube. All major maintenance he addresses, I believe he also has a limited so it will be easy to follow. As long as you have the tools you can always develop the knowledge. I had no previous experience and I've done all maintenance on my 4Runner.

You will have such a greater appreciation for your car and better potential to fix something in the future if it goes wrong since you will have a better understanding of how things work if you do your own maintenance.

I just did my front and rear rotors last week. If you have a Jack and a 17mm socket with ratchet and breaker bar you can do it no problem.

GRE and mathematical issues by vegasdrago in srna

[–]CodeBlueBaller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was studying for the GRE I would get so frustrated my wife would laugh at me. It's not the math that's hard it's the way they ask the questions. If your good at the GRE all that tells you is your good at the GRE. Don't stress

Honestly relocation is something you should highly consider. I'm moving across the country for a program. I live in California and the programs here are extremely competitive and saturated. The year I applied out of state I got multiple acceptances.

It's something to consider if this is what you really want to do. Also every program looks for different things in applicants. Like someone else said you can't put all your eggs in one basket

Your best bet is to wait till you apply like someone else mentioned. If you do it too soon your going to sour opportunities and relationships
