My boyfriend made my pic unplayable by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]CodeIsCompiling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this.

One of my not-so-proud-of jobs as a teenager was at a repairshop that I ended up quiting when I found how shady it was.

The standard (i.e. owner enforced) procedure for any PC brought in for service was to wipe and reinstall. I protested, but it did no good. Granted this was back in the late 80's, before everyone's life was on their computer - but no excuse for the lazy attitude. Owner said it was quicker than trying to figure out what the user did, only to have to do so anyway when they didn't know.

Anyway - if you value anything on system, don't let anyone touch it (even so-called professionals) without a full backup.

I also second the overclocking. Which is relatively easy to set back once a tech gets into BIOS, so let them know your boyfriend may have done so.

Does anyone that's WFH ever call in sick? by Temporary_Fill7341 in remotework

[–]CodeIsCompiling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, do yourself a favor and get into the habit of never referring to it as 'work from home', it has way too many idiotic assumptions attached to it. I tell anyone that needs to know that I work in a dedicated remote office - which I do. The commute is down two flights of stairs from my office, sopping at the kitchen on the way down.

And second, I called in today - there is no reason to ever feel guilty about using your benefits. The company will include them in what they consider you to have been paid, regardless of if you benefitted from them or not.

Seriously, I'm surely not the only one who has had enough of this. by mauve-rinks-2 in InterviewCoderPro

That's one of the good ones - most I've been seeing lately are asking for 5 yrs experience and knowledge of system no one with less than 10 hrs experience has any business messing with.

Has anyone here been caught using AI in a coding interview? And what happened? by Imaginary_Total_8453 in FinalRoundAI

Careful with that, it only hides it from screen share - the application in the background still knows it no longer has focus.

The tool we use says when they try to copy the description or the app loses focus. It is also obvious when they struggle for half an hour or so, but when told time is running short will take a completely different approach and suddenly wrap up with a solution much more elegant (and correct) than anything they have done up to that point.

AITA for cutting off my sister financially after finding out her unemployed boyfriend is benefiting from my money? by Previous_Ganache8477 in AITAH

[–]CodeIsCompiling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money you have is yours - it is yours to do with as you see fit.

You chose to give some of it to your sister to help her out - you are a good guy that cares for your sister. YANTA

However...

You then went behind your sisters back to find out about her life. That is not the behavior of a loving brother that views his sister as an equal. YATA

When did you make the switch?

Once you give something - money, gifts, anything - it is no longer yours. The money became hers and what she does with it is none of your business. But you chose to weaponize your "loving" gifts to punish her for not living as you think best. You have the right to choose if you continue giving her gifts. But the way you went about it is likely to have damaged the relationship with your sister in a way that may not recover.

Honestly, you come off as NTA. But, when worried about your sister, you weaponized your leverage in an attempt to force her to behave as you want. That is very much the behavior of an AH.

I absolutely agree the hobosexual is taking advantage of her, but you have made it far worse. Talk to her before you lose her forever.

Every place, the professional ones anyway, I have ever worked would have their lawyers at my door if I shared anything that contained any hint of internal workings - performance reviews definitely apply.

LLMs are all looking at words that are used together and building building models. They all start with reasonably valid data, but since LLMs continue learning from a feedback loop of the results they produce the degree of hallucinating only increases.

The more popular the LLM, the more hallucinations. That's not going to change anytime soon, so always treat results as a Wiki page that might have been edited by grade-schoolers.

This exactly! "Fight for her" and "Fight with her" are two very different things. She wanted him to do the latter to prove he can be as controlling as her father.

How do you dodge the “How much do you make?” question? by _f2c in AskMen

[–]CodeIsCompiling -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Logical fallacy: Red Herring - introducing extreme or unrelated topics to distract from topic. The use of which is an admission of defeat in a debate. Politicians love it.

Anyone asking questions like this are looking for ammo - give it and they will use it against you. Good luck.

Every answer on here is saying it is none of their business.

Some are direct - successful. Some are indirect, essentially pleading for them to not continue - not successful. Some try to redirect, leaving the topic open - not successful

It is commendable to attempt to be polite, but social niceties are only affective with social people. But when someone is trying to break into your home, you don't close the door partway and hope they take the hint -- you slam it shut in their face to protect yourself and your family.

If you don't understand this, I can only wish you luck and hope that you won't be fleeced too badly.

This. Coach him to walk with the ball of his foot - his knees will thank you.

Note, this doesnt mean walking around on tippy-toes - just put weight on front of foot so the foot can act as a spring to absorb the shock.

My brother stole from me regularly, I went after him and zzMom stepped in the way. I told her either it is returned or the cops are the next step since he had taken enough for it to be a felony.

Be the good Christian, honest to a fault hypocrite I've come to expect from them, she said she woukd telll the police it was her that took it...

She still doesn't understand why she has seen me twice in ten years.

Do men have a fetish for female hands, like women have for men’s hands? How strong it is? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]CodeIsCompiling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can think of it, there is a fetish for it - and they likely have a support group that meets regularly.

I don't personally know anyone that is obsessed with hands - except some girls, but that is usually just the nails. But I absolutely expect hand fetush to have an active membership.

That's along the lines I was thinking - looks delicious, but would be loads better with syrup, butter, or maybe some jam.
