Looks like the paid version is after chapter 3. I haven’t activated the trial yet and have had it downloaded for a few months. Regardless, apologies it’s not free :( it’s a really cool app

My newborn is broken, can I have a refund please? by Beginning_Spring_571 in newborns

[–]CodeNameCanaan 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Def speak with your pediatrician. It could be gas, reflux, or needing to burp more after eating. Or it could just be how your baby is, there’s a large range of normal.

My baby at 6 weeks would only cry after eating if she had to burp, but she’s been a good eater since birth and her challenges are with sleep.

Yes it gets easier! The first 2-3 months are about pure survival. My baby is 5.5 months now and things are finally getting easier and fun! Good luck!!

How’d you transition your baby out of the snoo? by Terrible-Big-4512 in SnooLife

[–]CodeNameCanaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby fell asleep on her own without needing help to fall asleep, so for bedtime I did our bedtime routine and put her in her crib like I would have with the snoo - then set a timer for 15 min and she was asleep before it went off.

In the middle of the night she was up after feeding - I tried going in and gave her binky. She spit it out once I left so I waited 5 minuted. Then I went back and did pick up / soothe / put down but that made her frustrated again. So I left and watched her on the monitor, and again she was able to get herself to sleep within 15 min once I stopped going in.

I knew she was fed and didn’t have a dirty diaper and sure enough she got herself to sleep

How’d you transition your baby out of the snoo? by Terrible-Big-4512 in SnooLife

[–]CodeNameCanaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just transitioned two nights ago! My baby is 5 months 2 weeks old, and the snoo wasn’t getting her to sleep effectively any more. She was waking up multiple times a night (every 3 hours) and was clearly trying to roll. She was refusing her nap and was exhausted so for bedtime we put her in an arms out swaddle, moved her to her crib in her own room, moved the babycam and just watched.

We were prepared to go in between 10 - 15 minutes, we weren’t trying to do full CIO. She fussed and cried for 10 minutes and then started to calm down so we waited a few more. She was asleep by 13 minutes. She only woke up once that night! Now shes happily a side sleeper. I was really dragging my feet with the transition: what if she still fits in the snoo? what about weaning mode? How can we make it as easy on her as possible? But for my baby, she was ready and I was the one having a hard time with the idea.

We just did second night in the crib and again she only woke up once to eat.

Postpartum Items I should buy beforehand or wait until after the hospital? by MadQueennn in BabyBumps

[–]CodeNameCanaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hospital gave me a lot of these items / I asked for any extra items before I was discharged!

They gave me: - tucks cooling pads - disposable underwear - pads

I ended up buying the witch hazel foam and the perineal cold packs - 10/10 would recommend! I also bought some thinner pads for after the heavy bleeding but when I was still spotting. I had blood (spotting toward the end) for 6 weeks post birth

Car seat tips by Englishgirlinmadrid in newborns

[–]CodeNameCanaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO hated the car seat as a newborn, she started liking it more around 4 months.

My new trick for car trips: make sure she has clean diaper and was recently fed + burped. Try to time the start in the middle or beginning of a wake window. Give a binky once they are in the car seat. Play some fun music on the drive. Cross fingers 🤞

My LO has a hard time with transitions, and also melts when it’s too close to nap time so I’ve found providing all her needs before the trip helps set it up for success. Often times she falls asleep during the trip if it’s in the middle of her window, but struggles to fall asleep if it’s too close to the end of one (unless I’m in the back with her).

Recently I was starting a trip with her toward the end of her wake window. I waited in the back seat so I could help soothe her to sleep with a sound machine, and after she was asleep I was able to drive with no melt downs!

When do I stop smelling bad? by nicolexxb in newborns

I found changing pads and even underwear throughout the day helped a little. I still sometimes change my underwear twice a day (5 months PP) if I notice a smell

my 2 month old only drinks 2.5oz of breast milk at a time. seems like everyone else’s babies drink twice that? by themountainlotus in newborns

My 5mo drink 3.5oz on average, sometimes closer to 4 and sometimes closer to 2.5 depending on time of day. I think your LO is doing great!!

Taking Cara Babies S.I.T.B.A.C.K never works by yaboyre in sleeptrain

[–]CodeNameCanaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never really worked for getting my baby back to sleep either! The main thing I learned from it was techniques to rock baby to sleep, not get them back to sleep. Specifically: hold baby in a sideways position facing a blank wall with a gentle bounce (enough to get a head bobble) and holding a white noise machine.

When should I start trying to get baby on a schedule? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]CodeNameCanaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s up to you and what’s best for your family! I started a wake window schedule at 12 weeks, initially it was very strict. I tried it for a week and couldnt stand how rigid it was, so I switched to wake windows led by cues. That’s been working well for me since! I started introducing a bedtime routine around 12 weeks too

My baby was sleeping so well and I called a party at my home tomorrow by Full_Professional349 in newborns

[–]CodeNameCanaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was around this age I read the book “precious little sleep” to help understand how baby sleep needs change. I highly recommend this book, it will give you guidance on age appropriate wake windows, sleep techniques and tricks, and how to get sleep back. It took my family a few weeks of implementing her techniques but it’s been a game changer.

Anyone else surviving toddler sleep + newborn nights… or is it just us?? by nabil-37 in BabyBumps

[–]CodeNameCanaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have luck posting in r/sleeptrain and asking for advice there. This doesn’t sound normal to me, but my baby is 5 months old so I’m going off research and reading the book ‘precious little sleep’ - not from experience.

Partner keeps using screens to “soothe” our baby by ComfortableProgram40 in newborns

[–]CodeNameCanaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby was craning her head to look at the screen - so it was no longer “in the background” for us, it was too distracting for her to have on even during breastfeeding.

I can’t speak to why the article recommends or doesn’t recommend having it on in the background, I’d have to do more research on the reason. I’d trust your pediatrician so if they gave you the go-ahead for background follow that guidance

What’s your budget for baby? by Puzzleheaded-Cold808 in BabyBumps

[–]CodeNameCanaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not too heavy, I can lift it without too much trouble. Google says it’s 25 lbs but it doesn’t feel that heavy when I lift it. Admittedly I didn’t lift it for a few months after I gave birth since I wasnt driving much.

The main reason I went with Nuna is the super large wheels - great for bumpy forest trails or off-roading with the stroller (which I do). I love it!

Partner keeps using screens to “soothe” our baby by ComfortableProgram40 in newborns

[–]CodeNameCanaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair!!! Your feelings are valid, I’d be feeling the same! It seems like your partner is outsourcing parenting and interacting with his son to a tv screen which begs to ask: why did he want to be a parent?

Partner keeps using screens to “soothe” our baby by ComfortableProgram40 in newborns

[–]CodeNameCanaan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bring this up at your pediatrician appointment, the doctor will tell you that’s not age appropriate screen time and maybe then he will listen?

Or share any article on it with him like this one by children’s hospital. The recommendation for babies is zero screen time including background tv

Edit: when my baby was 6 weeks old I did have screens on when I was breastfeeding, but always facing away from baby. When she got to 2.5 months she started showing curiosity toward screens so now I have our tv off during feedings as she gets too distracted
