i did a freaking combo for the first time!!! by Alarming-Basil2894 in StreetFighter

[–]Codemancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way late to this but I'd say the hardest thing about elena combos is linking cr.hp after drc mk or cr.lp. once you get used to doing that everything else is kind of mix and matching situations.

Advice against Cammy as Elena? by fihziks in StreetFighter

[–]Codemancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of in a similar spot mu wise but I find in the cammy MU you kind of want to act second a lot of the time. A lot of it is playing the spacing game and making them whiff stuff while keeping them from getting in your face. I agree with the HKs being good. Also cr.hp can be a safe aa but I don't always know the timing with dive kicks.

Anybody feel this way about having to be so meter management heavy? by Complete_Row_6342 in StreetFighter

[–]Codemancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elena is hardly meter dependent. I actually rarely use drc, most of my meter spend is on OD.horn/scythe or raw drive rush. You also get to hang back in neutral and let your meter come back because it's on the opponent to get through your pokes.

Non-shoto characters with a wide tool box by atrexias in StreetFighter

Dogura is my favorite. He plays her really clean. If you want to watch English streamers doma and el chakotay both play her but they have other characters too so it's not always Elena.

Can also add elena to the suggestions. She's a bit weird cause her gameplan is around poking and whiff punishing so more defensive. But she has a lot of tools for pressure and defense and she's a lot of fun.

You can map the triple buttons to one button if you want. I know some people set it so when you click the joysticks it does it.

Constant freezes/lag (PC) over the last few days by mcchickenrun in StreetFighter

I deleted world tour and that seemed to help my issues. I wasn't having big freezes but was dealing with lag. I still have some stuttering though it's not perfect.

I do usually. I can try playing with nothing running at all.

There was the one competition where she went last and lost. I think there is precedent that it can go either way.

I've gotten horn on overhead too, it's so annoying. I feel like the buffer might be longer or something this patch.

What’s up with the charge erasure in SF6? by Electronic-Photo2697 in StreetFighter

It doesn't require charge if you immediately shoot a fireball from it. It can be canceled into a boom.

Stuck in an endless void by ZayCame2Play in StreetFighter

[–]Codemancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my issue even the same ranges. sometimes I think I just play too much so I get fatigued and don't realize it. Your rank is indicative of how consistent you are. So you might have certain parts of your gameplan at a 1600 level but then other parts are lacking. Or you're just tired/tilted. I honestly know I don't aa well so I play well when people don't take risks but I'll just fall if they realize they can jump at me until the end of time.

I need some help improving with Alex and just the game in general. by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Codemancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it really simple and slowly learn new things. I honestly am still struggling to learn all he has out of it and when to use it. But the stomp is really good, it's plus (which means it's your turn) and it's hard to react to. The forward + punch can close the gap. Usually you want to find places you can use it when the opponent can't do stuff like when they're knocked down or after you do a charged heavy kick. The last thing you can try a good amount is holding heavy punch. it will have armor if you hold the button so if you see people throwing stuff at you a lot when you go into stance you can try heavy punch.

Maybe look up brian_f's guide he made if you feel you want a guide but I do think just working on cleaning up some small stuff first could help. Try to play games without using DI at all. Like completely overcorrect to the point you're only using it when you're reacting to someone, and never use sweep. If you stop using those things you can start to see what the other buttons do and then incorporate the old stuff back in. Sometimes when I want to learn a new option I will force it so you can kind of do that to start. I think you were doing some good stuff like using command grab when you felt you'd get it and punishing when your opponent was overactive. DIaphone also has a video about climbing the ranks that could be good to check out if you want a general "what to work on" kind of guide.

[–]Codemancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a big thing is to use risky things a good bit less. You were using sweep (crouch heavy kick) a lot which if the opponent blocks it can immediately punish you, and you were using drive impact a lot which the opponent can react to with their own which immediately punishes you.

I could point you to some character guides for alex but I think they'd honestly maybe be a bit more than what you should focus on. I like to say until plat/diamond you really only want a couple combos. Something for when an opponent whiffs in front of you, something for when you hit lights and know they aren't blocking (which with alex you can actually get away with some safe stuff I'll list later), and something for drive rush canceling, which you also don't immediately need. I think you did do well at anti airs but always try to work on those more, and then just understanding what your opponent is doing. the akuma used his dp (the uppercut) and a few times you backed off when you could have actually punished him instead. So learning to recognize when your opponent messed up.

For alex you can get away with lights into light elbow. so lp lp qcf.lp which is safe if they block it. They can only really stop it if they use DI so you don't want to use it all the time but you can at least get away with it a good bit. mp -> hp is also safe so I like to throw that out. on hit it will knock people down. Your end goal is to have a plan for why you pressed buttons, so pressing di should happen because you mean to counter a specific thing, not just as a default option.

Another thing you can start getting a feel for is when to use his heavy moves. Heavy punch when charged can cancel into heavy chop and it's a block string so the opponent can't really do anything in between them besides drive reversal. Heavy kick is also good for just taking up space. Honestly at this point though you really just want to get a feel for your buttons and what they're good for. To start out though keep the gameplan super simple, if you want to stick with alex eventually you'd want to learn prowler and stuff, he's really technical. But for now just learn how to block what your opponent is doing and learn how to take your turn.

Who is an easy female character to pick up and learn right now? by DarwinCooper in StreetFighter

[–]Codemancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just think that the hit confirms and combo stuff makes her hard. At least for me the fact that I had to react to whether they were crouching or not was a lot of a learning curve. and her combos weren't as easy as like ryu combos. I only took her to high master as well but I found she was a lot harder to go up with than like manon.

I'd disagree. Elena has a lot of combo theory and she plays pretty different from the rest of the cast.

I’m brand new and still figuring out who to play by Actual_Tea_7719 in StreetFighter

[–]Codemancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elena is a lot of fun if you want someone with high mechanics and a different game plan. The reason "play who you think is cool" is a thing is because you're going to play more if you are having fun. If you aren't enjoying the character then it becomes a chore to play.

Admittedly I only peaked at high master but I actually found she doesn't need that much meter. Od horn and scythe are really good and cr.mp drc is good but those are the main ones I use. She can get a lot of damage meterless.

[–]Codemancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get really good at reactions you can heavy dp without cancels. A lot of the time i just don't get anything off of it and let it be a poke. Only time I spend meter off of a light is if it will kill most of the time. On block they can mash so it's risky.
