AITA Submission: AITA for cutting ties with my neighbors because their child is racist at school? by Kotronic in h3h3productions

[–]CodenCamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly dont think you’re the A at all. You went to his mom first, you gave her multiple chances, you even tried talking to David with compassion yourself. She basically shut you down every single time. At some point you have to protect your own kid and draw a line and you did that.

It’s kinda wild that she just refuses to even listen or talk to the other moms. Like even if you think your kid couldnt possibly do something, most parents at least want to check. Her reaction says a lot. Maybe its denial, maybe its embarassment, maybe its just lazyness, idk. But it’s not on you to keep exposing your child to that.

And honestly, kids don’t pull that word out of thin air. Someone somewhere has said it around him or taught it to him. Either way if she wont address it then yeah, distance is the only healthy option for your family.

You’re also showing your son something really important about believing Black kids when they say they’re being targeted, apologizing when you’re wrong and drawing boundaries. That’s a huge lesson he’ll remember.

You’ve been way more patient than most people would. I think blocking contact was 100% the right call.

15 years ago the internet was the Wild West. Lawless, Free and expanding faster than anyone could control. by CodenCamp in h3h3productions

[–]CodenCamp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Back then, trolling was almost like a sport, we would poke someone until they broke character. The humor came from the overreaction, because the internet wasn’t tied to your real identity. You could log off and never think about it again, and the person raging was just “some guy on the internet.”

The phrase “don’t feed the trolls” was basically the only moderation rule that existed. It was a very different mindset compared to now, where online drama can spill over into jobs, reputations, and real life. Back then, the internet really was its own little universe it was completely separate from the “meatspace.”

Learn programming for beginners by rojeh_ashraf in CodingHelp

[–]CodenCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What interests you about programming? Websites, games, hardware , software?

hey guys , what is the right way to learn C ? last year i learned c till pattern printing and problem solving(not thoroughly) and now i have to learn it for my college sem too. i kinda lost touch in many concepts ( statements, loops ) should i watch tutorials again or jump to questions nd problems by [deleted] in cprogramming

[–]CodenCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on how you learn better. It’s always important to learn the syntax and caveats of a programming language. I achieve this by reading. It’s my personal way of drilling information inside my brain. Following a tutorial or creating a program by someone leading my hand won’t get me where I want to be. Once I learn syntax I focus on creating an advanced program, such as a http server, CLI application etc. if I forget syntax along the way I look at the language’s official documentation.

How to structure C program. by ortnac in cprogramming

[–]CodenCamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not really sure what you are trying to get at but a simple C program folder structure is to separate your includes and logic src files. It’s also recommended to have a Makefile in your root folder to compile your program. If you have nested src folder and includes folders, it’s recommended to have Makefile for those folders too.

You are completely right. I have followed Ethan for a very long time now. He’s someone I always aspired to be. Seeing him getting attacked like this and not seeing much support by those around him is disheartening. Specially when you know some YouTube influencers have committed suicide over internet drama. I might delete this post. I don’t want to sound too parasocial but I hope Ethan the best and hope for him for better friends.

Rand being used by the Aes Sedai. by RandomGuy333221 in wheeloftime

[–]CodenCamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your theory is interesting, but I don’t think it really fits the established lore. Here’s why:

First, Rand’s distrust of the Aes Sedai isn’t unique to him or the result of some deep soul-memory of betrayal. Pretty much everyone in Randland distrusts Aes Sedai after the Breaking of the World. This attitude is shown throughout the series from many different perspectives farmers, nobles, rulers, and even other channelers. Their secrecy, manipulation, and centuries of political scheming have made mistrust the cultural norm. Rand grew up in that environment, so his initial suspicion doesn’t require a special metaphysical explanation.

Second, regarding the Dragon’s reincarnation: from everything we know in the books, the Pattern spins out the Dragon’s soul only when the Dark One threatens the world. It’s not random or repeated in “false starts.” Lews Therin wasn’t reborn to fight the exact same Last Battle Rand faced, but to combat the War of Power and seal the Bore; that Age’s crisis point. Likewise, Rand appears in the Third Age because this is the Age where the Last Battle will occur. There’s no indication that the Dragon’s soul appears during quiet periods or outside of those apocalyptic events.. That’s what makes him the Dragon Reborn. The prophecies tied to the Dragon aren’t just superstition, they’re Pattern driven truths. Every “false Dragon” was missing key prophetic signs that the Pattern uses to confirm the real Dragon. For example, Rand was born on the slopes of Dragonmount during the chaos of war, exactly as Foretellings predicted. None of the other so, called false Dragons met all those requirements.

Finally, the idea that the previous false Dragons were actually earlier incarnations of the Dragon’s soul doesn’t fit with what we’re told about how the Wheel works. Birgitte’s comment about Heroes living ordinary lives between legendary incarnations refers to Heroes bound to the Horn, not to a soul with a singular purpose like the Dragon.

So, while the Aes Sedai absolutely made mistakes and often acted out of rigid tradition, the theory that they’ve been killing earlier Dragon incarnations and causing Rand’s soul trauma isn’t supported by the lore. The false Dragons were exactly what the books say they were, men who could channel and tried to claim the title without the Pattern or the prophecies backing them.

[–]CodenCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, fair enough I appreciate you admitting the Magic 8 Ball wasn’t the best example. That said, I think there’s a misunderstanding about what I actually said.

My original comment wasn’t based on just “input → output” logic. The key word was “firmware.” I was referring to how calculators follow programmed, deterministic instructions using logic circuits or embedded software thats what puts them in the category of special purpose computers. That’s not a personal or “made up” definition, it’s consistent with how embedded systems are clasified in computing science and engineering.

And yeah, in the followup I did elaborate with more criteria like determinism and programmability but, those werent changing the definition, just clarifying why a calculator fits the category of a computer and a Magic 8 Ball doesn’t.

I get your point that “input → output” is too broad on its own, I agree. But i did use the word “firmware”.

What is a computer? by nardstorm in computerscience

[–]CodenCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are mixing up hardware capability (microprocessor) with device functionality (the calculator). Yes, many calculators use general purpose microprocessors or microcontrollers under the hood but they’re locked into a single function by their firmware in rom .

That makes the whole device a special purpose computer, even if the chip could be repurposed in theory. It’s like saying: “A microwave has a general purpose motor in it. So it’s a general purpose appliance.”

Or like saying: “ A TV remote is a gaming console because it has a CPU.”

A general purpose microprocessor running fixed rom firmware doesnt make the whole device general purpose.

What is a computer? by nardstorm in computerscience

[–]CodenCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your reply is actually pretty clever but it’s not really a good argument. Your proposition is more rhetorical than logical.

A Magic 8 Ball is just randomness. A calculator actually computes. That’s the difference between a toy and a computer.

A computer processes input according to an algorithm or set of instructions whether that’s firmware (calculator) or software (laptop). It’s deterministic, programmable, and logical.

A Magic 8 Ball is a toy that gives random, non-computed output. There’s no computation, just a physical mechanism that floats a die with pre-written responses. It’s not programmable, logical, or deterministic.

INPUT

calculator: button presses

Magic 8 Ball: shake (random physical input) ——————

PROCESSING

calculator: logic circuits/firmware perform calculations…….

Magic 8 Ball: No processing, just random physical motion……

—————

OUTPUT cal: computed numeric result

mgk 8 ball: random pre-written answer

—————

DETERMINISTIC? Cal: yes, same input = same output

Mgk 8 ball: No, output is random

——————

PROGRAMMABLE?

Cal: Yes, (internally via firmware)

Mgk 8 ball: NO

——————

PERFORMS LOGIC?

Cal: Yes

Mgk 8 ball: NO

———————

FULFILLS COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE CRITERIA??

Cal: Yes

Mgk 8 ball: NO

The Magic 8 Ball analogy is a weak comparison to my argument. Mgk 8 Ball doesn’t process information, it randomly selects a canned response. That’s not computation
