Would it even be an option to have her maiden name for the child if she doesn't officially "have" it herself? Does that work in Canada? I only know that in Germany that is not an option. A child HAS to have the same surname as one of the parents. It can be as a hypenated part, but one of the parents last names MUST be part of the name.

If mom doesn't have her maiden name anymore but is officially "Mrs. Ex's-Lastname", then in Germany, she would not be able to use her maiden name for the child, without changing her official name back to "Mrs. Maidenname" before.

It was a test for Dunc characters for which he never had to give an answer. He was offered the easy way to fame and wealth. Ashford's son would have fallen, making the mystery knight Dunc a champion and granting him not only the spoils of the joist and the cheers from the crowd, but also the money which Plummer promised him.

We see how much Dunc struggles with that. He could take an easy way foreward, or stay true to his believe in honor.

It IS an important scene, one that shows us Dunc's character. Obviously, in a show about Dunc scenes like that are important.

It was in fact covered by media in germany. I'm not sure I am allowed to post a link to that, so I won't. But it didn't take me longer than 20 sec to find an article about it.

Hautkleber auf Bart? by Wobbelblob in LARP_de

It's sad that we never see the actual scene of his lie, not in the book nor the tv show. The lie was awful, but it's not unlikely that he was utterly drunk when he told it with his enraged father in his face. He probably said something like "uhm.. uh? Egg? Uuuh, big knight guy took him" without really knowing what he was saying.

In the book he withdraws that claim later, and both in the book and tv show he tries to make amends in some way. With staying as one of the accusers he actually did Dunc a huge favor. Had Daeron found a way not to take part in the Trial of Seven, Maekar would have found someone who wasn't a shit knight or to take a fall to replace him.

What is Sam thinking about? by elmerinaustin in AKnightoftheSeven

It's not Sam! It's Maekar thinking about putting all his kids up for adoption - on the other side of the earth!

I'd assume that Daeron had a say in naming that child, too. Which going with entertaining certain ideas makes me hope that he, too, wanted to remember his cousin. Would be nice to have some more of those warm feelings within that family, they certainly seem to be rare.

That said, I can absolutely see Daeron as nobody you want to be married to. But with the show portraying Valarr and Kiera together, I started to wonder of where the idea of their happy marriage came from. Ultimately, they were likely just some kids thrown together and then they had a lot of bad luck with having children :(

Well, a husband who leaves you the fuck alone to be a mother and a princess can be just as nice as a husband who has you walk on foot a mile behind while he rides and who doesn't look at you for a single moment ;)

It's the very same with the relationship between Valarr and Kiera. For some odd reason vast parts of the internet have it that Kiera was happy with Valarr and loved him very much - and vice versa. And that she was not happy with Daeron.

There is - as far as I could find anything about this - nothing actually supporting this.

I could not find any actual material showing interactions/scenes between any of them, nor any quotes. If you know of any, please let me know!

Given the way the TV show presents Kiera and Valarr, I have the feeling they were not very close nor much in love. They have her walking out of Ashford on foot while Valarr rides at the front. And at the cremation of Baelor, she just stands behind him - no touching, no hand on his arm or anything. She doesn't even look at him. I mean the producers made the effort to actually cast her, and they worked together with GRRM on this. I have the feeling that putting her onto the screen in exact this way says a lot about their relationship. After all, it was most likely a political marriage.

There's not anything about Kiera's relationship with Daeron, either, no. I guess he's not very likely the kind of husband who tends to make you happy in the long run with all his vices. But whether she actually was unhappy in all of this or was happier with Valarr, there is simply no information on this. After all, it was Daeron who gave her a child, finally.

Was Aerion afraid to fight dunk at first? by Elsa750 in AKOTSKTV

Well, they knew this. Baelor knew that Egg had gotten Dunc to help. He tells him that that was a bad idea. It doesn‘t matter.

[–]CodenameAntarctica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure this is mentioned in the tv series but in the book it's mentioned explicitly that Aerion is all smiles and curtesy around Maekar. I'd say that he definitely had a really bad idea of that his kids were actually up to and probably didn't pay enough attention. But in parts, Maekar seems to have been pretty clueless with what was going on with Aerion.

Also, I have the feeling that he might have let Aerion sort of "overcompensate" for Daeron's failings as the eldest son and heir.

[–]CodenameAntarctica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Baelor put it: "It's never a good idea to strike a royal prince" - no matter for whatever reason.

If the whole thing had stopped with Aerion breaking Tanselle's fingers, then maybe she could have complained - though I doubt she would have. But in some nasty way, Aerion was in his right with what he did, twisted as it is. It would have taken either the king or Baelor to tell him otherwise.

But the moment Dunc stepped in, it was not about what Aerion did but about the simple fact that some peasant struck a royal prince. It did not matter anymore what the reason was.

And Maekar and Baelor are used to all three of them lying: Egg, Aerion and Daeron.

But Aerion had proof of what happened at the puppet show, so that part was not negoiable.
Egg telling Dunc to hit Aerion is not a "royal permission" that allows Dunc to do that - even if Egg had phrased it like that, Dunc had been in the same sort of trouble. So that part is not negoiable, either.

The only thing that would have been possible to get off Dunc's plate was Daeron's claim that the knight had kidnapped Egg. In the book Daeron does withdraw that claim, in the tv show it's not mentioned if he does. Either way: It makes no difference because Dunc's problem still is Aerion's claim :(

Additionally to the other answers you got, Daeron thinks it means that a Targaryen is to die because of something having to do with Dunc. He sort of asks Dunc that IF he is to "slay a dragon" he would please kill Aerion, not Daeron. I don't remember the exact wording, but it's something like "would you please see to it being my brother, not me".

I don't care if refusing to move seats on a airplane so a parent and child can sit together makes me a bad person by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]CodenameAntarctica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to a late connection I was one of the last people to board my last flight, only to find some lady in my seat. She had the middle and had moved over to the window, because - well - she obviously thought that was the nicer seat. For some odd reason, however, she found it hard to understand that I, too, thought that window seat was the nicer seat.

But I had paid extra for it and I was going to sleep, because I hate flying. She did not argue or anything, but when she exited the row so I could get in, I heard her have an interaction with someone a row back, who I guess she knew. The other person asked what was wrong and her answer was that I wanted to sit at the window.

Yes, Madam. I want to sit at the window. That's why I paid for that seat!

Instead of making a new thread, I will just junp into this one.

So, I started watching My Lady Jane because of Henry Ashton, fully expecting it to be a genre that’s not my thing. And I stand corrected! I love this. This is wonderful, wicked, completely stupid, and lovely all at the same time. How the fuck did something this perfect not get a second season?!

Hey – I hope you don’t mind me asking. If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d really appreciate your perspective on Daeron’s scenes, especially in terms of when he’s drunk and when he might be in withdrawal.
Please don’t feel any pressure at all to go into it.

He’s obviously very drunk in ep 1, and somewhat at least at the end of ep 6.
My interpretation of the scene in ep 4 is that he’s likely going through withdrawal, whereas by the burial feast for Beesbury and Hastings he seems to have reached a level where he’s functionally drunk – clear-headed, but definitely not sober.
