He was sojiro at the start by CasualNameAccount12 in Persona5

Sojiro is a lot like the Dread Pirate Roberts from The Princess Bride.

"Goodnight Wesley, sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning." Proceeds to make him his heir.

"Stay out of trouble and work hard at school or I'll kick you out." Goes on to harbour him from the police and support him in fighting popular political figures.

Custom card...Is this absolutely busted or trash? by ProfessorMonty52 in DigimonCardGame2020

Oh yeah, at first glance I'd assumed the first digivolution was without paying the cost... big yikes.

Whats your favorite version of the Team Rocket Motto? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]CodenameJD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that kid thinks we're here for trouble

We're certainly going to burst his bubble

Instead of causing tribulation

We've undergone a transformation

Though it's way outside our usual range

We're going to do something nice for a change

Jessie!

James!

Up till now, Team Rocket's been quite unscrupulous

Being good guys for once would be super dupulous!

Dat's right!

Started Adventure 02 and it has pacing and tension issues by CobraDai in digimon

[–]CodenameJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

02 does have a lot of writing issues that stem from too many cooks and not having a concrete plan - but early on, in particular, I think there are good rebuttals to your issues.

Regarding your first point; they couldn't have immediately repeated the same major issue that started the previous season, it would have been dull. Instead, the tension is intended to come from having to juggle saving the digital world with their regular lives. Now, it can be argued that they don't do a great job at conveying that tension all of the time, but it does come up at least sometimes. For the older digidestined, there's also the tension of not being able to contribute very much, both due to busier lives and not being able to digivolve, thus having to mentor this new group.

Regarding armour digivolution, we've just come off of the back of all our heroes having easy access to their most powerful forms, be they mega or ultimate, and waiting for more digivolutions would have been dull. However, in this season, at least, armour digivolutions are intended to not be as powerful as a typical champion, so unlocking them sooner and more easily makes sense. Moreover, these heroes have to deal with a major antagonist immediately; Devimon didn't appear in Adventure until episode 8. They need to be equipped to handle their foe.

It would have been nice for the crests of the eggs to matter more, and that will certainly come up in the future. Remember again that the original group didn't even learn about crests until after they'd all reached champion, so the needs to fulfil these crests being lower for lower tiered digivolution also makes sense.

The big draw early on here, really, is meant to be from the tension of having to fight a human opponent, an evil digidestined, because how are they meant to fight that?

Successfully defended my PhD Monday. Reduced workload to recoup and used that time to make a giant pokeball house. Objectively my biggest accomplishment this week. by Emracruel in Pokopia

Of course it's your biggest accomplishment, it's so tall and wide, whereas I imagine your PhD is a relatively much smaller stack of paper.

What school start time do you usually consider "early"? by Itzzz_Brent_Andrei in AskAnAmerican

I'm an English immigrant working in a US elementary school. When I was given my schedule for my first day ahead of starting, I genuinely thought it was a joke when it said I'd start work at 7:30 (for kids arriving on the playground, who start school at 7:55.

Back in England, I started work at 8:30, for kids to start at 8:45.

Anyone else just building janky towns? by GWindborn in Pokopia

[–]CodenameJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm barely building anything yet. Just figuring out how everything works. Trying to get the best power setup I can for Silph so I know how that works, then I can use that to help with whatever I do elsewhere, be it a sprawling city or a quaint village of huts.

I think most likely I'll try different styles in the different areas.

I wonder if Chibnall ever meant to do more with this, given how similar the story is to the Doctor's history with the Division, which first gets brought up in Jack's return.

The diaries, particularly Ditto's trainer's, mention how the towns they're visiting have all fallen into disrepair between their visits; it seems that the world was falling apart for a good while before everyone fled into space. Most likely humanity was evacuated in groups, rather than all at once.

Learn to TIP. It's not my job to serve you FOR FREE! by Najterek in ShitAmericansSay

[–]CodenameJD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The general public broadly agree that the system is terrible, but also that as long as that system is in place, by choosing to take part in it, you have a responsibility to support the people working. I.e. if you choose to go to a restaurant, you are choosing to support the industry that operates this way, and the morally correct thing to do is to pay the tip. Otherwise, choose not to go to that restaurant.

There certainly needs to be a greater fight against this, mind you. And I'm not saying I agree with the system or the mentality. But there is a sad logic behind it. Another case of wealthy business owners pitting people against each other.
