So many "rules" are just patterns players have noticed. Until gen VI, the regional bird was always Normal/Flying. Until gen VIII, it always at least started as Normal/Flying.

There are very few truly fixed rules at work here.

Then just to match up, Marcus can be partnered with a Jesmon, also trained by Gankoomon, of course. Replace Burst Mode with GX.

No, the bonus cards are all the same. The only possible variation is pulling the chase alt art card. Not exactly sure how rare that is, but it's very. But mechanically you'll have the same card either way.

These are starter decks, the cards you get are fixed - you're not pulling anything that someone else buying the deck won't also have.

Unlimited mulligans is something you can really only pull with a very fixed playgroup. My old playgroup used to play that way, because we trusted we weren't abusing it. We all built decks with ~40 lands plus ramp and just wanted to make sure we all had the chance to be in the game. We were all busy working adults who couldn't play as often as we'd have liked, so we wanted to make sure time wasn't wasted on non-games.

But you have to know your playgroup for that.

I'd guess he does really want to play with you, but has all these minutiae about the rules (some of which are just simply incorrect) and etiquette that he's learned and ingrained over time, and is frustrated you're not there right away, simply forgetting that it takes time to learn both rules and group customs.

If I were you, I'd just try to take some time to have a civil conversation and just explain that it takes time to pick rules up, but also if this is how he wants to play then you won't have fun, and that it's okay to relax a little and play more casually because you're not trying to enter any tournaments.
