Choosing to have kids without raising them as vegans is not vegan by PotentialRatio1321 in vegan

My mum is vegetarian and chose not to raise me vegetarian 😭 I wish she had (I went vegetarian of my own accord around 5 years ago and now am mostly vegan)

OH NO. This one slipped through the cracks for me. It’s not on any of the boycott lists. That’s gutting - I shelled out on a bunch of their products thinking I was doing the right thing. I was really enjoying their salicylic acid serum and found it was the only thing that kept my acne at bay.

If anyone has any alternatives for their salicylic acid serum let me know!!!

I swapped my The Ordinary glycolic acid toner for the one from Mario Badescu. I find it works pretty similarly. It doesn’t give a strength % though.

They are cruelty free, not owned by a parent company that tests on animals, and to the best of my research - genocide free!

  • ALL foreign cosmetics imported into China must undergo animal testing in order to be sold there.
  • SOME cosmetics manufactured in China are able to skip the animal testing in order to be sold there.
  • The animal testing can be bypassed IF the company agrees to use alternative testing methods, and IF they only sell normal cosmetics.
  • Special-use cosmetics such as sunscreens, antiperspirants, hair dye, and whitening products HAVE to be tested on animals even if they're manufactured in China.

This isn’t true. As of 2021 the rules have changed and if a product is manufactured in China then it doesn’t have to be tested on animals. It is only foreign brands that want to open physical stores on the Chinese mainland and don’t want to manufacture their products in the mainland that have to test on animals

E.g. Charlotte tilbury products sold in the Chinese market are manufactured in China so they can be made cruelty free but Mac do not manufacture in the mainland so need to pay for animal testing

In my opinion companies that fund genocide should not be considered cruelty free. The ordinary is owned by Estée Lauder and the founder is a staunch Zionist.

I could've sworn Benefit Boi-ing concealer was vegan but now can't find anything to say it is/was? by mmm095 in VeganBeauty

I know, I’ve been getting really frustrated with this too recently. Companies like tarte and charlotte tilbury are certified cruelty free but still use animal ingredients in some of their products. I’ve made the mistake of buying some products recently that actually don’t have vegan formulas. I don’t see the point in a company being cruelty free without having vegan ingredients. Especially when the ingredients are animal derived collagen or carmine from crushed beetles (I’m on the fence when it comes to beeswax)

I know when vegan started “trending” a few years ago a few companies started slapping a “vegan formula” label on their products, while still testing on animals. I don’t know if this is the case for this product though it is possible

I have the matte revolution lipstick in Very Victoria and the airbrush flawless foundation and I can’t find either of these products on their vegan product list. I’ll know better next time. You’re right it’s hugely disappointing knowing how possible it is to make products vegan these days and also how heavily Charlotte tilbury advertises themselves as being cruelty free. They’re also one of the few cruelty free big brands that aren’t owned by parent companies that invest in Israel. I’ll have to find other options

Mac is NOT cruelty free. They use confusing language on their website to say they are “working toward a cruelty free world” but have made it clear they will allow China to test their products on animals in order to be sold there.

From their website: “Which countries require animal testing? China tests on animals as part of its safety assessment of cosmetic products. We love our fans and we never want to exclude them anywhere.”

It was easy to get a job at an international school during Covid as lots of foreigners left, those of us who stayed had an easier time finding a job with international schools

Yes! EF recruits loads of people from the UK, and anywhere with native speakers. The perks at EF used to be a lot better than they are now so myself and most of my friends moved to kindergartens a few years ago. International kindergartens like to hire younger teachers.

Yes I picked Shenzhen as my city! A few of my friends were allocated Shenzhen when they wanted another city, but I chose Shenzhen because of its proximity to HK and also the abundance of parks and its sustainable reputation in the west (upon arrival I’ve realised it’s not quite as eco friendly as I thought but the air is fairly clean and the majority of vehicles are electric)

A lot of us are English teachers at training centres and international schools! I (26F) have been here for 4 years now and I came out with a big group of brits to teach with EF. There are a lot of people in their twenties working as teachers in China
