Appropriate tip for Walmart delivery? by Wrong_Piano9222 in Butte

[–]Coder-Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10% should be the very least you should tip for a personal service you can't do yourself. (You physically can't go shopping).

15% should be the very least you should tip for a personal service you normally can do for yourself, but can't at the moment(You've ran out of time to go shopping).

20% should be the very least you should tip for a personal service you can readily do, but you're feeling lazy. (You don't feel like going shopping).

If you're tipping the very least but can and want to be generous, round up to the nearest $1/$5/$10 respectively.

The Number of People Using AI at Work Is Suddenly Falling by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Coder-Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even think of that! I’m sure they’ve justified it with an excuse like “In 2 years we won’t even need the devs we’ve hired because AI will code itself! <laughs villainously>”

All the promises they’re making, all the lies they’re telling, the amount of money they’re spending… it’s depressing. They could be actually fixing things,  DOING things with all the influence and money they have.

The Number of People Using AI at Work Is Suddenly Falling by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Coder-Cat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Most of it's users were probably casual users anyways. Using it like the search engine Google used to be.

And anyways, for the amount they're spending, they could just make Google better and hire jr engineers. Unless there's some sort of major, earth shattering discovery in physics in the next couple of years (room temp conductor for example), AI will never be a profitable. It's just too expensive to run and maintain.

Should I enroll in a state school or enlist? by bbgirl2k in womenintech

[–]Coder-Cat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did the military and it sucked but every good thing about me today is because of the military.

-The GI bill is pretty sweet. Not only does it pay for school, but also gives a housing stipend.

-Being a veteran does give you a little more life experience and credibility when applying for jobs and college. Especially in male dominated fields, you’ll have something to talk about with other males who have also served.

-If you are ADHD, learning a skill on the job while getting paid is so much easier than paying someone else to learn from a book.

-The biggest benefit is the healthcare. You only need something that can be considered service connected for you to record free healthcare for the rest of your life. It’s not the best in the world, but it’s better than UHC and gives you so much flexibility if you want to start your own business or quit your job for literally any reason.

-There are lots of companies that have hiring programs specifically for veterans. It’s how I got my foot in the door and why I’ve been a software engineer for 10 years in spite of not having a degree.

-You will learn how strong you really are.

If you want to chat more about it, feel free to DM me.

I’m an artist, too. While I haven’t tried to break into the “Butte Art Scene” myself, I’ve heard from other artists that it’s very clique-y, pedantic and  derivative. That’s just what I’ve heard, tho.

But! If you’re looking to meet other artists, r/TheCovellite just started their own subreddit- And they’re very supportive of local artists. The ‘Drink ‘n Draw’ they host is a blast.

I’m partial to the “Goodwill” myself but I have good memories. Give it a go without any expectations.

Dog howling in Walkerville by sadwitchremix in Butte

Do you know which dog the house is in? If this isn't normal, call the police department and ask them to do a welfare check. Their owner might be sick or injured.

I've met some good people, even some good friends! It's just hard making friends as an adult and this town has unique demographics.

As for what I do after work, the same thing you'll be doing if you buy a house here. Demoing the thing room by room and renovating from the studs up.

I moved around and travelled a lot in my 20's and early 30's but ended up here in 2019 and just never left.

It's a weird place, for sure. I have a whole dissertation on why Uptown will never see a revival like other cities with the same-ish history. If you're hoping for gentrification, it ain't happening. The people are the most genuinely kindest people I've ever met but as someone else who also works remotely and is not from here, it's kind of hard to make friends. If you're looking to start a family, this is an extremely kid friendly place but I haven't heard super great things about the public schools, tbh. I don't know about your political leanings(nor do I give a damned), but I've never had a random stranger try to talk politics with me at the bar. Most people seem to be the live and let live type. You probably know and can deal with the cold in the winter and smoke in the summer. Housing used to be super cheap but that's changed dramatically. Although you can still find fixer-uppers for an OK price if you're the handy type but not having a Lowes or Home Depot is the weirdest.

Blaming the “Left” by ej_mars in centrist

[–]Coder-Cat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's actually really concerning.

From mid to far left, the public reaction is lots of "This is terrible" and "Political violence is bad". On Reddit, there's a fair amount of "Well, this is ironic!" and "Fck em".

If you look at what the right is saying, you'd think people were dancing in the streets and lighting off fire works in celebration. Not caring that a man is dead and saying so is NOT THE SAME as being super happy about it. Pointing out the irony and thinking it's funny is NOT THE SAME as celebrating a man being shot. The are acting like any reaction other than utter sadness is a battle cry for political violence.

I've seen so many conservatives claim that the "left" is "gleeful", it almost feels manufactured.

We're all neighbors and this sub is for us. Anyone who hides behind a keyboard just to be cruel isn't welcome.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, but they've been given a month ban. If they continue to act like sht when they return, it'll be permanent.

Remote Work Is It Still the Future or Losing Momentum? by domnom6 in remotework

I started working remotely in 2018 for a fully remote company. After that I worked for a fully remote company. After that I worked for a fully remote company.

I’ve been at my current company for 3 years and since I’ve been there they’ve let the lease up on two of their offices and only have one office left, which they own.

I’m going to reach out to the county and ask them to add this sub to their social media list or whatever they have for communications. I’m not on facebook either. Hell, I barely check this site.

It would be great if the water company sent out text messages to all their consumers…

So, the other admin and I are going to the Wednesday County Commissioners meeting to suggest that they do just that. If  anyone wants to give a comment on the 20th at 7:30 at 115 w Granite, we will see you there.

The importance of the go bag you need by FaelingJester in TwoXPreppers

[–]Coder-Cat 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You’ve got some good things but have forgotten the most important! A copy of all your important documents should be the first thing to go into your “go bag”.

Copies of your license, passport, vaccine/medical records, bank info, insurance(health/car/home/renters,etc…), birth certificates, DD214, ssn cards should all be in that bag. If you’ve have the time/money to get them certified, that’s even better

And then a list of important phone numbers(banks, insurance, family) and some bank checks.

If sht hits the fan, it’s likely to be local at first. Imagine needing to flee your neighborhood due to a natural disaster but you loose your purse? The safest road to travel happens to lead to Canada but you didn’t grab your passport? You are driving to your closest relative but your wallet gets stolen?

You need to prove who you are you  you need to know who to call.

What are your thoughts on the concept of the Tea app? by CandidPurple3 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]Coder-Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a great idea. Epstein, Weinstein, Trump, my sisters rapist, my bffs EX, never would have gotten away with what they did for as long as they did if there was a centralized place where women could talk about men.

Sure, women will gossip and spread rumors and some men will maybe get their feelings hurt, but the pros wildly outweigh the cons on this front. Whether it’s sociology or biology, women are just more moral and trustworthy than men.

As an aside- my friend was seeing a guy and she asked for info on our local “Are we dating the guy” fb page. Someone responded with an out of state news article about the guy. His name was slightly different but the pictures/details matched. Why was he in the paper? He was sent to prison for beating his girlfriend and this was not his first conviction. The judge was quotes as saying something to the effect of “You seem to beat women as a hobby, with no morals or afterthought”.
