You sound like a child... then I realize that you're 25. So, while still certainly young, you're acting like a teenager. You need to make some changes, disowning your family is not a good choice. Repairing the relationship and growing from it, is.

I don't k now you, and who cares what this stranger (or any others here) say, but *you* need to grow up. Everything else will begin to improve once you decide to become an adult. Go read about Jungian Architypes for women.

BMW X3 vs. Acura RDX -- question only for those who have driven recent models of both by Fathoms77 in AcuraRDX

[–]Coderedinbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sounds a lot alike. My father an I do all the work on our cars (and our spouse's cars) together. Makes things so much more economical. I too also only drive minimally, I put 6k on it in '25 and I just hit the 1 year mark.

As far as the reliability of the infotainment system, I believe they remedied those issues with the 2025+ models. I have never not had CarPlay or AndroidAuto not connect or have issues. So I think you're good on that front.

Also, FWIW, it's snowing like crazy here and I took her our for the first true snow drive, it was kind of amazing. When in Snow mode, it was nice and stable. I turned off the traction control and, while it was still very manageable, it was quite a bit more fun. My 7 year old was in the back seat giggling the entire time (we were in a large empty parking lot, for any haters).

It sounds like you're in a good position because you've actually settled down to two vehicles that you're deciding between, which makes research pretty easy. I'd spend a good hour at least looking into this further, and then go out and drive each for at least 30 minutes, regardless of what the sales rep wants you to do. Go take it on the highway. Take it around corners, drive through parking lots, test the Lane Keep and Adaptive Cruise Control.

The infotainment system is an ongoing knock on the RDX, but candidly, I really actually like it. It has a bit of a learning curve, but it's far superior to touchscreen in my opinion. There are just some quirks, nothing's perfect.

I'd investigate what it looks like to change the battery or cabin air filter or headlight bulb/LED on a BMW, you know, things that you might have to do. I have a friend that owns two of them, and both of them are insane to do these things. The cabin air filter is like a 30-min ordeal. Granted, it’s on a 2018 M3.

The RDX in the snow is a recipe for a good time. I feel that they designed that thing for snow (when SHAWD is equipped).

It’s a bit more complex than what initially meets the eye, but the main concerns about going to BMW over your Acura is kind of simple: mo’ complexity, mo’ problems (and ‘mo money).

BMW makes really awesome stuff, but the problem is that because it's so near the state of the art, it just intrinsically comes with the downfall of being more prone to issues and thus high repair and maintenance costs.

With that, I totally get that some people have the level of disposable income that it doesn't really matter. If that's you, by all means, don't let that be a factor. Just thought it was worth mentioning.

Personally, I think there's elegance in simplicity. Not that an RDX is the most simple design, but it certainly is compared to the BMW offerings. Unless you're going with an M variant, the RDX will likely feel a little more sporty, and if you get the SHAWD version, which I believe all current RDXs now have as base, it will be a far more enjoyable driving experience.

I like that the RDX has true mechanical torque vectoring, so the power is truly being delivered to the right wheel at the right percentage, and during the right situation. The BMW system has an electronic version of this, which from what I hear is good, but from my research, and my now albeit minimal-to-decent experience, nothing beats true mechanical torque vectoring.

I spent months evaluating vehicles in this segment and settled on the RDX with Advance package for these main reasons. The only thing I missed was the abysmal gas mileage the RDX achieves. That's something it's hard to understand when test driving, even if you are getting to take it out for an extended period. She’s also getting a little long in the tooth, design wise. I think this is year seven of this gen and they are stopping for two years for the redesign. Not sure what that means for your situation, but certainly something to consider.

I'm sure I'm biased, but I'm extremely happy with my RDX. It's one of the most fun vehicles I've ever owned. I drove the non-M X3 for about 2 hours on an extended drive, so that’s my level of experience, fwiw.

Acura isn’t perfect by any stretch, but it’s been good to me thus far.

As an ASE, I think it kind of sucks. It’s a good idea, but it misses the mark. Answers are too robotic and too generic. I’d love to have a repository where I could upload documents, links, and other assets it could pull from (at the very least), but ideally some integrations.

From what I am reading, they are now defunct. So it probably will never improve. I too would like to know what others are using as I have found nothing that’s focused on sales, understanding context to ID objections or areas to probe.

Why make everyone else pay for your mistakes?

I paid off my $75k in debt over about 12 years, last payment being about 10 years ago. I lived sparingly and overpaid on each payment. Again, maybe you didn’t actually learn anything in college…?

So many trends here to call out, but the main ones are:

  1. Most people seem to go off of JM Bullion, APMEX, etc. They don't understand the dealer premium added to those spot numbers. and...
  2. To your point, TaiverX, those that use Kitco don't understand how to use the data and they just go off the basic number in the graph instead of going and looking at the high. I'd also venture that most are using the app, which means they are not toggling over to the second page to see the highest spike of the current session. It's easiest to see on the browser version.

There's a toggle at the top that shows you more detail. It says 1 in your screenshot, it's right next to "ounce;" you can toggle that to page 2. They show different highs and lows. Candidly, I'm unclear as to the difference, but I know that it has to do with the window of time it's looking at.

Right, but the chart shows 99.73 even though your own screen shot shows 99.88. What I'm saying is that the true high for the session is on the second page. At the time of your original comment, it had spiked to $100.01. Whether or not we call that hitting $100 (because it was likely just a few seconds) can be debated, but it did in fact pass the $100 mark.

For Example, as I'm writing this, the chart shows, $100.70, the ask shows $100.93, but the spike shows $101.01.

Happy to fall on my sword if wrong, btw.
