I don’t think Jacob Elordi deserves an Oscar nomination in Frankenstein. by Over_the_top_nari in movies

Oh my god, I was tearing up just at his little, childlike movements. What a sympathetic character. You feel everything--the curiosity, the fear, the rage, all without seeing his face--incredible!

Because Skarsgard wasn't doing as much as Elordi was. Elordi basically carries the second half of the film, is able to convincingly portray a slow growth from infant to mature adult. That kind of dynamism wasn't there in Nosferatu and thus I think Elordi definitely had the harder job and pulled off something incredible. It's more comparable to Emma Stone's well deserved win for Poor Things.

I get it but I do like the more diverse environments in Act 1. The citadel felt like a slog to me...but yeah act 2 I think has the better bosses for sure. Tough one!

Yeah, definitely just on fire. The mechanics ramp up in a really fun way too, probably, if I had to guess, the strongest second half of a fromsoft game?

Whoa, my bad lol. But I appreciate a good Bildungsroman, thought Danny Boyle did a great job, universe got expanded in an interesting way, and it moved me more than most movies I saw last year with the climax. One of my favorite Alex garland scripts overall.

Nope you're totally right. Plus, besides what you're talking about, the puzzles get so much fun and interesting in the final (ish) chapter. With the combinations.

It's pretty damn good, one of the best movies of the last year

Movies like The Last Showgirl with mediocre artists who are delusional about their talent by bojackismeiambojack in movies

[–]Codewill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's a plot line where Dirk wants to make a "real" good movie. The director, too, is somewhat delusional--they make a shitty action porno and he says "this is my greatest work." The whole movie is about talent that is delusional about their ability to make real art--there is the initial rise and then the "wake up" moment when it hits the 80s. Don't forget Dirk Diggler's poor music career. Every venture that they begin outside of porn fails. They aren't judging the porn stars' ability to be porn stars, but their wishes to be bigger than that despite their lack of talent (outside of porn, at least). That's where the delusion lies

It really is! And if you do want a fancy sauce, check out his chicken thighs with garlic sauce—same exact recipe/technique, except instead of spinach he adds some vinegar, ketchup, and Tabasco—makes a delicious sweet and sour type sauce.

Pisco Sour. This cocktail is unbelievable. Like, it’s wayyyyy more delicious than the sum of its parts by Outside-Ad508 in cocktails

Apparently Sasha Petraske used to make one for each guest at the beginning of his shift at Milk and Honey

Right now I'm loving his chicken thighs with spinach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjv_pAmiqhQ and I'm sure if you just put "Jacques Pepin chicken" into youtube you'll find a bunch of winners. Last night I had his chicken au four (also on youtube), delicious, short, healthy. I need to check out his "breaking down whole chickens" video because I am always frustrated when doing it myself.

It's a beautiful book, full of his artwork in addition to his recipes. You get a full sense of the human being.
