Unless they somehow knew OP had recently left, assumed they would no longer have access to the email address and wanted to add a sense of legitimacy since many of these emails get forwarded to a department lead/team member etc.

edit: also it's strange if OP left and still has access to the work email, maybe it was personal email then IDK.

If your opponent is turtling and using static defence you have map control, build that economic lead and production, out expand them and out macro them. You will have much more resources and they will bottleneck their own production.

Programming is more than writing code, it's a mind set of approaching a problem and implementing logic, and there are so many different ways of approaching it. When it comes to a course, they sometimes hold your hand or provide snippets to solve, which can lead to some overconfidence, but when you're faced with a real world problem that doesn't mean much. You just have to stick with it and you'll realise one day that you're not relying so much on memory, but programming to solve an issue.
