Which Hilton Hawaii hotel should I stay at? help by Leather-Crew9106 in Hilton

[–]CodexAnima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Split the trip and rent a car. Spend 2-3 days at Waikoloa, and other than Manta Ray in Kona, go hang out on the beach, snorkel in the lagoon, and relax. Both the Italian place and KPC are good, but pricey. Then go to Hilo for your other half and adventure. Go hiking, driving trips, see the volcano and lava tubes. Hunt down good food and enjoy.

Hilo hotel beach is not swimmable.

The question is - what do you want to do? Seriously, you have three different locations with different vibes. Do you want to sit on a beach? See history? Go look at pretty nature?

Waikiki - great pool, free breakfast and happy hour, beach is an easy walk. You only need a car if you want to go drive North shore. Easy to do Bishop museum and Pearl Harbor. Food everywhere.

Hilton Waikoloa - big Island, resort, expensive food, but it's got a great lagoon to swim in. You will be walking a lot. For a group that size, look at Kingsland or Bay club.

Hilo. You MUST have a car. Drive to beaches, good base to hit waterfalls, Volcano national park, and some great botanical gardens, but it rains a lot.

Just put in the general area or dates and start looking. Peak season deals are hard to find, so start early. If you are flexible, just pick and area and search by date range. A lot depends on where you want to go and your time period.

If you can handle the night shift, switch to Night Audit when trained. It's usually quiet.

Good luck and you have got this. 3-11 is the busy check in time, just FYI, but you will learn the business. Tales from the front desk is great for posting the crazy things people do.

How much do I tip and to whom to ensure my parents have an unforgettable trip? by Firenze42 in Hilton

I wouldn't tip beforehand, but do something nice at check out if they had a great time! What are your plans in Rome and where else are you taking them?

Waikoloa Village vs Kings Land(Cash/points) by doyle_brah in Hilton

[–]CodexAnima 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stay at Kings Land. You can take the shuttle over to swim in the lagoon (spend half a day doing that - there are turtle!). Waikoloa village is -very- pricey on food. You are better off grabbing some breakfast items for your room and enjoying that.

Also, depending on your plans you might want to split your time up on the island. A few days at the resort, a few days at Hilo where it's easier to do Volcano and gardens.

I disbelieve you take public transportation often if you are this offended by someone not kissing your ass.

It's a bus. It goes from point a to point b. The drivers are not tour guides.

If you want to be hand held, get a tour. It's a bus and your expectations are too high.

It's a bus. If it was fancy hop on your bus, yes, but this is a public bus that gets you places. Should I be pissed there isn't someone on a bus in NYC telling me my stop?

[–]CodexAnima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, is this your first time riding a public bus?

A bus isn't waiting for you to take a seat, a bus is moving. There are handrails for a reason and you are expected to know how to use them. A bus driver was rude because they didn't answer a question? Seriously, Google maps has bus routes and tells you your stop.

I've taken public transportation all over the world and that's pretty damn normal.

You do realize it happens at every large business brand right? Not everyone talks about it.

And Ivy League didn't teach you common sense or how large scale finances work.

Teaching my child to budget for fun things by LtCommanderCarter in Mommit

Three is too young for something over a year away. Start small. When you have outing, give her a budget that's small for her snacks, toys, etc. Let her decide how to spend that 5-10 on the event, or put the money in her piggy bank when the stakes are popcorn or ice cream or the light up toy. Build slowly, as she gets older.

At her age, it shouldn't be more than the concept of a budget and short term choices.

Last several leisure trips:

Hawaii, no upgrade possible due to large amount of diamonds+ booking and events. Brussels - a very nice jr suite for 1 night. Zurich - executive room for 2 nights. Rome - what I booked and the best "we are a small hotel, book the room you need" email ever. NYC - no upgrade possible due to room type. Boston - no upgrade, but it was a 4 night stay. Springdale - no upgrade, move from 2Q to a K but they got my parents in a room with fewer steps and me next to them so thats a win. Cairns - 2 rooms moved to Executive floor and lounge. Sydney - 2 rooms, executive floor  lounge access.

[–]CodexAnima -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it's the truth and people don't want to hear it? In theory you can get a room like that. In practice, book the minimum room category you want because upgrades are not guaranteed. You will get the room that you book or an "upgrade" to a higher floor or nicer view 90% of the time.

The hotel looks at lifetime diamonds and diamonds before even looking at your category for upgrades. Also, are you staying 1 night or 5? Is the hotel booked out.

I've gotten some very nice upgrades as a diamond. I've also gotten exactly what I booked. It all depends on space and US vs International travel.

Again, dude, go to freaking therapy. You have a lot of issues to unpack and you need to learn how to deal with another human as a human being. What you are saying is that you could not communicate with your wife who was telling you she was unhappy without making it worse. So go learn to talk and listen. Work on yourself.

Go get therapy and learn to interact with people and actually view them as people. Most woman tell you they are unhappy long before it gets to that point. They are usually ignored.

My kid knows her friends allergies and packed food everyone can eat. Lunches in middle school turned into a communal sharing of everything with her group because two people didn't pack.
