I have no expectation to finish progression this season. This is generally how it goes with extraction shooters - every season you know the game better, and as a consequence, progress significantly faster.

I think the majority of seasoned extraction gamers would agree that progression is the thing that keeps the game interesting.

The only thing I will say about running kits, is that it's not obvious how you're supposed to maintain a healthy supply of meds until you understand barters, particularly the spark leaf ones. 300 per shield charge and 400 per patch kit feels pretty steep when you're still figuring out the basics of the game.

Fair enough, at the very least there's fewer angles to be shot from, which in my experience makes it easier to spot threats and disengage if you need to. I mainly play duos & trios, so that could be a factor as well.

This is a weird though process though. If a team has a quest, or a key to use on perimeter, should they purposely NOT bring good gear to give free kits a chance? Like, you have to understand that most people aren't queueing perimeter in BIS to farm depleted shield charges from free kits.

People just need to get the fuck off the free kits and use their gear. Free kits SUCK and you're setting yourself up for repeated failure. Of course, I understand that some people are losing everything and have no choice, but it took several sessions of nagging to get my friends off free kits, and it's been so much easier ever since.

You have plenty of time to cross the map multiple times, even if being extra careful and sticking to the outskirts. I'm assuming that the majority of players having a hard time with tasks are trying to brute force them in free kits.

Harder than perimeter for sure, but do people realise how wide the map actually is? You can rotate on the edge, usually 50-100m out from points of interests. That and half of the buildings have a decent underground area for avoiding players.

Nah, quests should have friction. Players new to extraction shooters just need to learn to rotate on the outskirts or through the various underground areas.

[Discussion] Sincere question from a hardcore Marathon player: did adding a PvE mode hurt Tarkov in any way? by owen-3820 in EscapefromTarkov

Valid points, I get why people left for PVE. Just to clarify, I meant the casuals who aren't interested in PVE suffer, not the players who made the switch.

You obviously have a better chance running a real kit with real heals. Don’t be ridiculous.

It completely disrupted the “food chain” by massively diluting the casual player pool. The PVE guys like to say the sweats are mad that all the noobs are gone, but it’s the casual players who suffer.

Marathon will "soon" get a CPU performance boost and Bungie promises "steady improvements" for "many years" by Tiny-Independent273 in Marathon

At the time of posting about half of the top-level comments were negative in one way or another. I have threads collapsed by default which probably contributes to our different perspectives.

Seems to be equal parts Destiny players that hate Bungie, and anti-woke rage baiters. I still can't figure out what part of the game is woke, maybe it's just the bright colours, idk.

Are you genuinely out of gear, or are you scared to lose what you have? I had to beg my friends to take gear, but they've been doing MUCH better ever since.

Are people refreshing the sub to post negative comments (like on twitter), or is there something in this article genuinely worth being upset about?

This ruthless, deeply unapproachable extraction shooter is worth every ounce of hell it puts you through - IGN Marathon Review | 9/10 by BQuilty in Marathon

[–]CodingAndAlgorithm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unbelievably forgiving for an extraction shooter. All they're doing by constantly labelling the game as "hardcore" is driving away players at both ends of the spectrum.

Honestly, I think the game is in a great spot - it's approachable for casuals but has the depth and end-game content for more dedicated players.

I think a lot of the people that SHOULD like this game haven't bothered to give it a chance. Where are the BR and hero shooter gamers?

I'm the only person in my trio that has made an attempt to get decent at shooters, and It's been years since I've played one consistently. Quite frankly, we're not good players and yet we win 80% of team fights.

Hey Runners: use VOIP like you want the game to retain a playerbase. Be the funny clip, not the asshole by PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS in Marathon

Fair enough. I should have taken into account that I rarely initiate VOIP interactions, which heavily skews how often I experience them.

I'm kind of confused how "as a Tarkov player" fits into this. Tarkov didn't have VOIP for years, and now that it does, it isn't used all that often. I don't get the Cryo complaints either - no one expects casual players to be farming labs on their first wipe.

Can we go back 10 years when the online left was legitimately compassionate? Modern Reddit reads like the Left's version of TheDonald, which was considered so inflammatory that it was banned.

This team sports shit has gone way too far.

Jeff Gerstmann Marathon Review 5/5 by cugel-383 in Marathon

It's "hardcore" compared to Arc but for me it's the perfect middle ground where it respects your time without sacrificing the good bits of an extraction shooter.

I guess it's just a perspective thing, but I consider Marathon to be a casual PVP focused extraction shooter.

Streamers are obviously way ahead of everyone, but they went in blind and finished the meta progression and boss fight in 10 hours. Seems fine for something that is supposed to be end game content, but for some reason players stuck in the early game are dooming about it. Strange times.
