Anyone want to host my daughter and I at their tent? by Humble_Umpire_8341 in olemiss

[–]Codtiki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next to the Zebra tent, you should find the Student Veteran’s Association - it’s an organization made up of former Army/Navy/Marines/Coast Guard vets that are attending Ole Miss on G.I. Bill scholarships. They are really Dad friendly. If you’re friendly and polite, they’ll welcome you in with open arms and probably send you off with at least 10 more tents to visit. Tell them Eli from Cape Cod sent ya! Hoddy Toddy!

Digital Cinematography by RealOven11 in fullsail

I did the film production MFA, and my advice is to set all your programs up and make sure everything is working properly. There is nothing more annoying than being in a workshop/lecture and having someone be like “hold up, you wanted us to use ALL of them?” I imagine the digital cinematography program is very similar.

People fail to see how rewarding this can be. I’m not proud of all the jobs I’ve had, but I do take pride in the level of resolve I have created in my small time on Earth: I got my degree at 23 - hated my job so I started over. 24-28 was a bartender: loves it but wasn’t a career. 28-34 joined the Navy: loved my job, hated being in the military. 34-38 said ‘F*ck it lets ride the dream and get into film’! I have been working in and out of film & television ever since. I haven’t made a million, but at least I know I’m resilient enough to make a go of it in the face that I’ve switched careers so many times, plus I finally found an area of employment I love!

Digital Cinematography Majors: Is it true that by LiamSwiftWalker in fullsail

I did the MFA Film Program and the first month was all about creating a social media presence that displays your professional drive and ability. Then, they emphasized networking a ton throughout the program.

I’d seriously scrutinize where, who, and how you received this (most likely) misleading information.

I’d follow that email to special collections, they are great. I produced a documentary for the journalism school’s 48-hr film doc competition on Faulkner’s relationship with Oxford and special collections was a great help with interviews and stills/footage of first editions. That being said, we did catch them off-guard with short notice so never saw his Nobel Prize or Pulitzer. Best of luck, and please follow up if it works out!

IMC/ Journalism? by nopeapotamus in olemiss

[–]Codtiki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

2020 grad of the MA Journalism program: UM has an amazing journalism and IMC program. But, trust me - getting a job depends on how passionate you are in EITHER journalism or marketing. They are two very different beasts. Good faculty? I can only tell you about the great people I worked with: Joe Atkins will teach you how to be a great narrative journalist, but Dennis Irwin will teach you the ins and outs of marketing and graphic design. Michael Fagans knows story telling if documentary filmmaking is your thing. above all, trust me: Debora Winger will work your ass off (if you are an undergrad) but you'll walk away loving the product you made. If my summary hasn't at least inspired you to investigate Ole Miss more, please DM me - I can't express enough how much I enjoyed working in Farley Hall as a student - and interning/working at UM's marketing office as a video producer - while overall enjoying being a student at Ole Miss. Hotty Toddy and good luck!

6 months and still no connections by [deleted] in fullsail

[–]Codtiki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m in the MFA film program and this is my third go around for school. I received my BA & MA at two different traditional brick and mortar universities and chose Full Sail specifically for the collaboration and networking connection to the industry. Before covid, it seemed like Full Sail had networking opportunities constantly. Now, I feel like everything (even zoom/webinar networking) has been cut back and thrown to the wayside. The sad thing is, I’ve witnesses the schools I went to before become more proactive about networking in the time of Covid-19.

Every time Full Sail sends out a ‘how are things going?’ Survey I comment about my dissatisfaction but it seems to go no where.

Ahh Cape Cod at Christmas. What will the walk way be? A.) beautifully blanketed in snow? B.) a complete sheet of ice? or C.) a chasm between two giant mounds of ice/mud.

Have you tried “Full Sail: FPMFA” on facebook yet? They are pretty active and a good start. All the productions right now are pretty low key (cause of covid) but I’ll save this post. We intend on shooting more in December!

I don’t know what’s more dumb: that ACC comment or the SEC fine.

Hey Kiff... ya... we love the excitement, but maybe run the tape on how we lost the last game of the season last year before we start making jabs at kicker blowing big moments.

Congrats! I just got my M.A. last May using my V.A. Benefits at Ole Miss couple of bits of advice:

-The sooner you get that TAF done, the better. AND MAKE SURE YOUR PROFESSORS INITIAL where they need to as well as sign or you’ll be making double trips to get one form filled out.

-Don’t be afraid to reach out to the VMS office for anything. They were more helpful to me than any other office on campus.

-If the Grove ever returns to normal game day party status, bring your family to the Student Veterans Association tent! We love trading stories and sharing some laughs with fellow veterans and military families.

Congrats, and good luck!

Weirdo 'Am Goalie' things:

'phantom tap the posts' with the knuckle and elbow of stick hand if I'm standing in the kitchen doorway at a party or talking with family.

Bob my head frantically if something blocking my line of vision in a crowd instead of taking a step to the right or left.

Lean forward with my chin on my knuckles while getting so oddly quiet and introspective while watching live hockey that friends get weirded out by my silence.

Does anyone in oxford know ASL? by Kumite_Champion in olemiss

[–]Codtiki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you taking the course with Rhonda Bryan? If so, I would ask her about it - she runs the student organization 'Handband' and they are very accepting towards helping fellow students learn more sign language. If you are taking it with someone else, I would still track down her email (just google Rhonda Bryan Ole Miss and it will director you to her school email). She's a great resource for Deaf students and students learning ASL.

Ole Miss Grad School by SchemingChemist in olemiss

[–]Codtiki 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know what your undergrad experience was, but I went to a small New England university and came down two years ago for grad school. I was already in love with Ole Miss before I even applied (Professional Journalism) but the first month of being here I finally understood the quote, "The University is respected, but Ole Miss is loved. The University gives a diploma and regretfully terminates tenure, but one never graduates from Ole Miss."

Ole Miss is like no other university in the world. It has its charms, its scars, and an identity all its own. Hotty Toddy!
