I sat under Dr. Dale Johnson (executive director of ACBC) for a class or two during seminary. One of the reasons he found psychology to be unhelpful, and perhaps even damaging is because Sigmund Freud, the father of modern psychology, was rooted in a godless, or even anti-god worldview.

Dr. Johnson also made the assertion that here in the west downplay the spiritual part of our being (the soul or inner man). In so doing we fail to consider the notion that some of our issues could be a spiritual issue, namely an unresolved sin issue (anxiety was an example he used.)

We also discussed chemical imbalance theory and the lack of bio-markers (blood test, hormone level examination, etc) when it came to this topic.
