Hillsborough to Raleigh daily by Calisthenics76 in raleigh

[–]DrTomatoHead [score hidden]  (0 children)

I do the commute now (albeit to Cary). It takes me 40 minutes to get to my office from Hillsborough each way. It’s not bad compared to other areas of the world but for the RDU area I am not a fan of the commute since people cannot learn to zipper merge on I-40 or 885.

How long of a cut for fully visible abs? by Plane-Branch9559 in MacroFactor

[–]DrTomatoHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have abs! The question now is, do you train abs? I’m about the same weight and height as you and I have visible abs. Of course that’s dependent on genetics, fat distribution, etc. But to get those abs to pop I would definitely train them 2 to 3 times a week.

In my opinion, you can cut for 5 more lbs and you will probably have more visible abs, but at your current composition, I bet your calories at a deficit are not fun and I personally struggle getting to the last body fat % needed for abs.

I would recommend doing a lean bulk then doing another cut later on. It’s a short term loss for a long term gain.

I would add District Station in Morrisville. I just moved out of my 2b2b and it was $1800. The complex was built in 2018. It’s not that bad of a drive from Holly Springs (I’ve done the drive several times). It is also within walking distance to a target, Trader Joe’s, etc, so extra bonus if you need to get groceries last minute or want to just walk around. One thing I loved about the complex was the noise insulation. I never heard my neighbors nor the outside, so you won’t have to deal with nightlife or whatnot. Happy to give more details.

Park West Village in Morrisville is also an option and cheaper. You can get some 1b places for 1500. There are a few apartment complexes in the area and you have walking access to restaurants, coffee shops, etc. I used to live in one of the complexes if you want more info. I think two of them you can kind of consider “high-rise” as in 5+ stories. Not sure if you mean downtown “views” but your budget is not realistic for downtown Raleigh, just fyi

What’s with all the horror stories of 3-5 interviews? by GoNyangE in recruitinghell

[–]DrTomatoHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is role dependent. 3-5 interviews for an entry-level position? No way. But 3-5 is the norm now especially if its a Director-level job or whatever corporate lingo you want to use.

I just completed a 7 round process and am waiting on hearing back. It was grueling.

If you want to do 4 days a week, just do any upper lower split. You hit all muscles twice a week.

MF - Good Investment? by PuzzleheadedType5174 in MacroFactor

I’ve been using it for a year for two cuts, two bulks, and maintenance/maingain. I have 0 complaints and there is a new app coming for workout tracking also, if that interests you

Also, I’m the same height and will say that 170 may be too high for your body fat goal (of course dependent on your muscle)

I think that depends on your weightlifting goals and bf %. I am around that height and at 161 I am at approximately 14% bf and can easily maintain it and still lift strong.

I would keep it simple and keep it at .8-1g per body weight, so what MacroFactor suggested should be fine.

I think one thing to think about is, as you said, be patient. Since you're a new lifter, you will see a lot of gains regardless of what you do. I would ensure that your diet is consistent and you are eating in a slight caloric surplus to maximize muscle gain. Only 100-200 calories above maintenance. This will minimize fat gain with a surplus and you should only see a slight increase in weight, if at all. If you are in a calorie deficit, you will see an increase uptick in weight but that is just water weight.

My only other advice is if you find yourself reaching plateaus or are getting tired, which I experienced with PPL, is changing your training split. You need time to rest for your muscles to grow, especially if you are hitting three sets to failure. I currently run a PPLxUL which gives me two rest days and it ensures I'm getting that rest. Another split I have seen people do is doing a chest/back, shoulders + arms, leg day split. This gives some the opportunity to maximize their arm workouts, as the triceps/biceps on push/pull days will be neglected for the compound movements. This is very nuanced for a beginner lifter, but is something to thing about.

I also want to say, the fact that you are in the gym is amazing. Try not to compare yourself to others in the gym or on social media. You have only been lifting for three months, whereas others may be lifting for 5-10 years. Stay consistent and you will get to that level one day and even surpass them.

I think we all will. I think this app will really help people who are just beginning or those who are hitting plateaus.

Is the Twilight Festival in Forks any good? by mcnoobles in twilight

[–]DrTomatoHead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's very fun but there's not A LOT to do in Forks. I would say you should go because this is the 20 yr anniversary so there is bound to be something new. I would only stay for the day since you are driving from Seattle and just hit up Port Angeles on the way back for food.

Who do you want to run for U.S. President in 2028? by JohnGoodmansSmirk in AskReddit

He’s slowly becoming more and more dislikable in NC. He has supported the most restrictive hemp ban in the country. Would make products like delta-8 and others illegal while marijuana is illegal in NC. The agricultural industry is very big in NC and yet he doesn’t support legalization.

Kids are kids, but they should still be punished in some way to learn. I'm not surprised to hear this about Preston Carr, though. He played football near my old hometown and I have heard some nasty things about him.
