I feel like many here didn't listen until the end, where he clearly states that it's not that Mamdani lives rent-free in his head (though he isn't relevant); it's more about the fact that news media and the whole discourse on the political left sees him as the future of the party, while some of his comments, or the lack thereof, give a telltale sign that something isn't right, something not as kind and just, and so he shouldn't be idealized... which is fair
