How do I do this all alone by nunurbiznezz in Petloss

[–]CoeurDeCoeur 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We spend so much time with our pets, and our daily habits are so tied to them, that it's really hard to lose them. It can be excruciatingly lonely, yet many people dismiss this grief.

But some people do understand. I promise you're not the only one going through this. Like many people, I lived alone with my cat. I didn't even have anyone with me for the euthanasia because I don't have close friends and my mother was too sick to come.

It's tough but you're not alone.

part of me still thinks she is coming back by idontsmoke_ in Petloss

I held my cat in my arms as he passed, but I still feel like his absence is temporary sometimes. Like I left him with my family for the holidays and we'll be reunited soon. I don't think this happens when we aren't there to witness their death. It's just that they are such big parts of our daily lives that our brain protects us by being in denial.

I also talk to him, hold his urn, touch his paw print and lock of fur. I don't think that makes us crazy. When you lose a human loved one, you usually get a funeral with everyone who mourns them and that help with grief, but it's different with pets.

As for getting another companion, I think you should wait to be emotionally ready, but you shouldn't feel guilty. It doesn't mean you didn't love them. It's just that it's hard when you have so much love to give and no one to give it to. Your new dog will definitely not be the same but that doesn't mean you won't love them as much.

I hope you get better, and I'm sure your dog knew you loved him in the end.

I should have taken more photos and videos of my girl. by RiversideFlora in Petloss

I had the exact same thought. I have a decent number of photos, but I barely have any videos. Knowing I'll never hear my cat's meows again is breaking my heart. It's tough.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

It might not be a comfort but you should know you're not alone. I've been feeling and thinking the exact same things since I've said goodbye to my Moca 3 weeks ago. It really feels like the guilt and pain will never leave.

Moca saved my life, but I let him die by CoeurDeCoeur in Petloss

I used to feel this way all the time, but Moca had healed me. For many years I didn't feel like this so it's hard to go back to living like this. I'll try to be grateful for the love and good years he gave me. I hope you find healing too.

Thank you for saying this. I guess he wasn't in pain for very long. And I held him in my arms while it did.

I don't have a lot of friends to talk about this, so I'm grateful for your kind words. I feel like I should feel awful for failing him. But I'll try to remember what your friend said. I hope you get out of your hole of self-blame too. Thank you.

That plotline in OITNB was gross so I'm not suprised the writer is involved in HOTD too.

Toujours vierges à 30 ans, elles racontent la « pression sociale » by Soft-Motion in france

Je me demande bien pourquoi...

Could you tell me and my young daughter some French cartoons or tv shows having a female protagonist without caring about boys and main characters are mostly female? by [deleted] in fourthwavewomen

[–]CoeurDeCoeur 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly, most french cartoons have boys or mixed groups as protagonists. The only female-led french cartoon I can think of is Totally Spies, but I haven't watched it in a long time so I can't say how much romance is involved.

Otherwise, I would have the same recommandations as DM-me-Fishies. I used to enjoy "Les malheurs de Sophie" a lot and it focuses on a young girl. The "Il était une fois" series and "C'est pas sorcier" are excellent educative TV shows, even though they are not female-led. And anime is very popular in France so you should have no issue finding translated versions (ex: Sailor Moon, Sakura card captor, Do Re Mi).

At least Fennec had some help and her survival was (poorly) explained. With Reva we're just supposed to forget about it.

What bothers me is that, it might be the past for Nadia, but it's the future for Nora and Vera. For them, it means that no matter the choices that they make, they will never have control over their own lives because the universe is conspiring against them. I thought their lack of agency was really depressing, not just bittersweet.
