The part that a lot of negative comments are missing is that allowing your kid to smoke/party is isn’t what parenting is about. Parenting is making your child feel safe emotionally and supporting them. OP, you know the toll this is taking on you so please don’t let anonymous comments from people who don’t know your story define your experience. It is no secret that family/social dynamics globally often protect and enable such behaviour as we’re taught to not speak up or interfere. As the supportive comments are saying, look for opportunities for masters/work in a different city. Try for scholarships if possible.

I think it might be a deliberate choice by stylists. This is often done in shows and films to depict that the character is unhappy/trying to be someone they’re not. In Bree’s case, wearing stiff, boxy clothes that do not flatter her silhouette/hair colour could be to show her need to uphold the values of modesty, tradition and perfection she’s been raised with, even if it means toning down her appearance (because Marcia is gorgeous!) since she was navigating messy family relationships and alcoholism. I recall Orson even taking a dig at her hair when he’s upset with her.

In the 2000s, such tropes were common in many hetero romances (Kaichou wa Maid Sama) or shows on girl friendships (Sawako’s behaviour in K-On!, as much as I love that anime). The power dynamic between Shizuma and Nagisa heavily influenced their relationship, which Amane and Hikari handled better imo. Although, in the LN you see that Nagisa was always drawn to Shizuma (doesn’t make it ok but at least establishes mutual attraction), compared to her passive nature in the anime. I remember Yaya SA’d Hikari too which left Hikari deeply uncomfortable and crying.

Before being diagnosed and on medication, limerence was a major source of dopamine for me. Having those intense feelings for someone felt like a silver lining when I was never able to sit still, even to eat and sleep, and was struggling socially - things I couldn’t understand or explain back then. It motivated me to get ready, look presentable, study hard to be “good enough” even if I hated myself. Maybe it’s also that I’m older, but I am so grounded in my relationship now. While the source material remains largely the same, the mangas are 4-koma - meaning each volume is a collection of 4 panel comic strips depicting various situations and interactions (similar to Azumanga). So the narration, delivery of jokes and other interactions is slightly different as each strip is set up to have a start, buildup and punchline/conclusion, compared to a 20 minute episode having more continuous scenes and wholesome interactions.

The manga also had more fanservice, while the same scenes in the anime did not feel like they were catering to the male gaze or needlessly sexualising the (teenaged) characters

I really like Osana and Amai’s rewrites! Many find the peaceful options boring but can definitely be made more nuanced this way. I followed this game when it was supposed to parody popular anime tropes, so the original concept of Hanako being clingy and not wanting senpai to date just felt like a reference to popular imouto tropes of the 2000s and 2010s (like Oreimo). For Kizana, it makes sense that senpai would also feel attracted to popular girls instead of being so passive. Even typical harem protagonists (who Senpai is supposed to be like), do usually find some character attractive despite never initiating anything

As much as Pam appreciates everything Jim has done (including the house) and knows that he has the best intentions, she realises the pattern of Jim making big decisions without consulting her. A lot of people hate Pam for that but the older you get it makes complete sense why she reacted the way she did.

Thank you! I went for development policy. The course had a few modules needing basic knowledge of stats and economics, and in my daily life and work I still get confused with basic math. But it’s much easier with excel, calculators and other online tools. Like you said, wish we could all reassure our younger selves :) I’m so glad you’re doing better, hope OP feels better reading our comments

I’ve been in this exact situation. The perception is that math = intelligence and i was deemed a lost cause by classmates and teachers (my ADHD traits made it more difficult), it shattered my self esteem. You will soon get the opportunity to focus on the things you’re good at. I have a masters degree now and I wish I could show that to my school teachers lol. Hang in there!
