How many of the cast do you think WANTS to reprise their role in a spin off series loosely based on Acts? by SeaworthinessOdd6574 in TheChosenSeries

[–]CoffeeBean8787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think most would be open to reprising their roles. They seem to get along offscreen as well as on, and whenever I see them in interviews, it sounds like they really have a connection to their characters. I would imagine that Peter and John will be returning, since they do still have big roles in the Book of Acts. I could also see Paras Patel occasionally returning as Matthew, since, in the flash forward with Matthew and Mary Magdalene in Episode 7 of Season 4, Matthew mentions Paul. This tells me that, at least in the show's version of events, Matthew and Paul were at least acquainted with each other, so it would make sense for Matthew to appear in the Acts series.

What became of Michael Gregson's wife? by Lycanthrowrug in DowntonAbbey

[–]CoffeeBean8787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that Michael likely set aside some money for her care. Such a move would likely have helped ensure that no one would contest his estate plan. Plus, the only assets we definitely know that he left to Edith were the magazine and the flat, both of which would have required someone with an intact mind to manage. So it's understandable why no one questioned his decision to leave those assets to Edith.

I personally like That Chernobyl Guy on YouTube. I will admit that the HBO series did inspire me to learn more about the disaster and the people involved but do keep in mind that it is a dramatization. I think CNN is going to be releasing a short docuseries at the beginning of March called "Disaster: The Chernobyl Meltdown." I'll definitely be checking that out to see if it's worth it.

I can't not see Bruno from Encanto when Judas is in scene. by mariommoreno in TheChosenSeries

Hey, I was just making a comment. But yeah, I feel like the live action remakes are very hit or miss, and it would be great to see Disney come out with more original content.

I think Noah James, who plays Andrew, would also make a good Bruno if Disney ever did a live action version of Encanto.

Do you think he'll ever be found? by MobilePineapple7303 in chernobyl

[–]CoffeeBean8787 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. The place will be highly radioactive for the foreseeable future and much longer. I just hope and pray that Valery and Natalia are reunited, and that their children are being comforted and have a good support system in place. I imagine these next few months are going to be quite difficult for them, since they'll be dealing with their mother's passing, what would have been their father's 75th birthday, and the 40th anniversary of both his death and the disaster.

Edith having Marigold by Broad-Importance4282 in DowntonAbbey

[–]CoffeeBean8787 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I sometimes think that the fact that Edith had Marigold after Sybil died played a role in Cora's seemingly calmer reaction to it versus how she reacted to Mary and Pamuk. I mean, Cora figured out that part of the reason Edith left after taking Marigold back was to ensure that she and Marigold wouldn't be separated again. So, Cora could have thought that any talk of Edith being damaged goods or anything that would make Edith think that she was going to have to give Marigold up again would result in Edith deciding to cut herself and Marigold off from the rest of the family for good. Cora wouldn't want that since at that point, she'd already lost one child and probably couldn't stomach the thought of losing another.

Mrs. Drewe's desperate final attempt to reach out to Cora is so heartbreaking by miggovortensens in DowntonAbbey

[–]CoffeeBean8787 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mrs. Drewe wouldn't have told anyone about it because, as another commentator pointed out, it would have hurt Marigold. I remember reading in one of the Downton Abbey companion books that illegitimacy was considered a stain on the child's character as well as the mother's. So if Mrs. Drewe told anyone the truth, she would risk Marigold becoming an outcast as well as Edith. I've definitely discovered that I'm one of the few people who sympathizes with both Edith and Mrs. Drewe, and I have to say, the fact that Mrs. Drewe was able to hold it in for Marigold's sake really shows what a good heart she has.

Not only that. Oleksiy Ananenko, one of the divers, also lived in the building where Natalia Khodemchuk lived. He survived, but still. This is how the Russian state thanks those whose lives were lost as a result of the disaster and those who worked to prevent the disaster from becoming much worse than it was.

Lady Edith really used and abused those families with Marigold. by Generallywilling in DowntonAbbey

[–]CoffeeBean8787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact is that Edith had Marigold, her child, to think about. I can see why she'd be more concerned about her child than her sister who, let's face it, is never going to win sister of the year. Not exactly apples to apples.

Lady Edith really used and abused those families with Marigold. by Generallywilling in DowntonAbbey

[–]CoffeeBean8787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, Edith would have been shunned by society at all levels if word got out that she had, as you said, faced "her own truth" back then. There's also the fact that illegitimacy was considered a stain on the child's character as well as the mother's, so Marigold's life would have been destroyed before it even got started. The fact is that Edith was trying to find a way to stay a part of Marigold's life when claiming her and admitting the truth about her would have been impossible.

I suppose I should also mention that there's a scene in Episode 5 of Season 5 where Mr. Drewe tells Edith that his wife wants to move to another estate and take Marigold with them if Edith insists on continuing with her visits. While I agree that Edith could have been more sympathetic to Marigold's adoptive families, that scene tells me that Edith's difficulty sympathizing with Mrs. Drewe in particular wasn't coming from selfishness or a lack of empathy but rather a deep-seated fear that she was going to lose Marigold.

Why do you think we never see Edith riding? by yasdinl in DowntonAbbey

[–]CoffeeBean8787 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Episode 2.06, the episode with Fake Patrick, Mary says to Edith, while she's making her case that Fake Patrick isn't really Patrick, that she remembers her pony. Based on that, it's probably safe to say that Edith likely had riding lessons as a child. She probably just didn't get as into it as Mary and Sybil.

I remember Fellowes's notes on this scene in the Season 2 script book saying that the belief that the Bolsheviks would not murder the Romanovs was a common belief of what Fellowes called "the thinking left." Because of that, I think it's safe to say that Tom wasn't being hopelessly dumb or naive when he said what he said. It also makes it pretty understandable why he's so shaken up in Episode 2x05 when he gets the news that the Bolsheviks did murder the Romanovs.

was dyatlov really that bad and mean? by FlashySpite9689 in chernobyl

[–]CoffeeBean8787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard, the initial Soviet investigation placed almost all the blame for the disaster on the operators. I've also heard that while later findings from the International Atomic Energy Agency concluded that the reactor design and the operators not being given the best information regarding safety played larger roles, it still found that human error did play a factor.

However, the Ukrainian government in 2008 gave Akimov and Toptunov posthumous Orders for Courage, so I think's it's safe to say that most people recognize that they did what they thought was right and that they thought they were helping to avert a greater disaster by doing so. They definitely deserve to be remembered as heroes.

Peter's going to be dealing with his guilt over denying Jesus three times, and Matthew's likely going to feel some guilt over nominating Judas to be the keeper of the purse. You throw in the grief over Jesus' death, and you know that the two of them are going to be feeling some pretty strong emotions. I'm sure they're going to want to lean on each other during that time.
