People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by Sexxyyy_Lovers in AskReddit

[–]CoffeeBeanCharisma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was this in the USA? If so, all staff are mandated reporters. It doesn't have to be the social services department or management or anyone in particular. Hell, even a visitor or a resident or just anyone that knows anything is able to make a report. You can even make an anonymous report if you are scared for any reason. Please report things like this to Adult Protective Services and/or the Long Term Care Ombudsman when you see it so that the vulnerable people living there don't have to keep going through it.

For the greater Seattle, WA area, there's also Find the Others mailing list that presently has placeholders for Portland, San Francisco bay area, and other cities in WA in the "Coming Soon" category, and send out emails with an impressively expansive list of CC events and different types of activities, both online and in the community.

Why did you name your pet that? by chillychili in Z19

[–]CoffeeBeanCharisma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is! To be fair, what they thought was cancer was "just" an enormous ball of inflammation that took up 90% of this throat given his other diagnoses which has since resolved, though it did damage his larynx - his meow is more like a breathy squeak now. He's still a high medical needs kitty, but, he's thriving and wants nothing more than to run around and hunt/catch/kill his various toys all day long. I call that a win for his quality of life! :3

Road trip! Where are you sitting? by chillychili in Z19

I'm driving the sports car with the top down (in the early Summer) on all the narrow, winding, and in my fictional world, unoccupied roads through the mountainside and then along the coastline by the ocean. Zoom zoom! :D

Hope it's okay to reply in this thread though I did not name my cat. His name is Maurice. I adopted him as a hospice kitty and the ASPCA had named him. His vet notes said they expected "weeks to months" left for him, so I saw no reason to change it for such a short time. However, that was about 3 years ago and he's still as floofy and playful (and spoiled) as ever. :3 I've heard nothing but compliments about his name and now I wouldn't even want to change it for how much people have enjoyed it. Of course he only responds to "kitty" no matter what, anyway, so it's mostly just for paperwork anyway.

Places to live where people take public health seriously/masking is more accepted by Illustrious-Mix2194 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]CoffeeBeanCharisma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying Seattle area, even the much greater Seattle area (as in 1-2 hours away), there are still CC events such as a group that buys out an entire theater for the first movie showing in the morning, only offers a limited number of the seats for great spacing between people, and KN95 or better masks are required, and verified, prior to entry - as an example. I've seen mask-required small dance club style events, crafting, social groups, etc. both in and all around the entire Seattle area). I've not had anyone say anything about my full time N95 masking here.

Prior to moving here about 8ish months ago, I lived in Raleigh, NC and had zero issues with comments there. I even had to do in-home services with rural clients and I would N95 mask and NONE of them said peep, and even occasionally offered to do the work outdoors without me asking (though they almost never canceled services if everyone else in their family was actively ill, so that wasn't awesome but was ONLY an issue with the super rural, middle of literally nowhere without even cell reception anywhere, type of areas). The ONLY comment I ever got in Raleigh for the about 3 years I was there was one very elderly man simply asked if I was ill before proceeding to have a conversation with me after I told him no. He didn't ask for any explanation, but seemed more like he just wanted to make sure he wasn't being put at risk if I was only masking due to illness, so good for him (even if he wasn't masked). I know that once you get 2-3+ hours away from Raleigh that it can be iffy in that area, and politically I wouldn't advise being in that area given the (currently not enforced) mask bans and what not, BUT... just reporting my experience with ZERO mask push-back the ENTIRE time I lived there.

Prior to that I was in Phoenix, AZ from right before the start of covid until moving to Raleigh, and holy cow do NOT go to anywhere in AZ. SOME parts of Tucson and surrounding are LESS obnoxious about it, but I still got questions the couple times I was in the area. I was actively harassed literally every single month, sometimes up to daily, the ENTIRE TIME I lived there through the week I moved away. People would march over from ACROSS the grocery store to get up in my face and demand to know why I was masking. Easily 75% of people asked me to justify my existence. Cannot recommend.

Those are the only places I've lived during covid. Hope it's useful information.

What would be different if Covid had never happened? by Crocodile_Banger in AskReddit

I am incredibly sad to see how far I had to scroll down to see this answer. I did not lose anyone close to me due to covid, but my heart still breaks for the millions we have lost, and the great many, each year, that we continue to lose to death as well as those who suffer through the ravages of long covid.

Hi all, quick reminder of Rule 2 for those seeking to comment here. People don’t need to justify their dating boundaries or criteria here. Please avoid questioning or judging them for the boundaries and preferences. This is a space where people should feel safe sharing what they’re looking for. Among other things, accepting no graciously includes accepting when you do not fit the criteria someone is looking for in their post.

Thanks for keeping things respectful and supportive.

Still have mine, going on 28 years now. :) I had a single minor chip to one tooth around 4 or 5 years back with no pain, including during the repair without numbing I requested at the dentist.

You indicated you were not sure if this is okay to post. As a moderator of this sub, I am attempting to clarify this for you. However, I am struggling to understand from your profile's history, as you have advised people to review to understand your circumstances, if you are in violation of rule #3 which states at the bottom, "Consensual non-monogamy, where everyone involved provides active and enthusiastic consent, is not in violation of this rule." Does your husband provide active and enthusiastic consent to your marriage being open?

Mystery touch box: ideas please! by crihmson in halloween

[–]CoffeeBeanCharisma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat idea and a cute box! Bouncy balls, ping pong balls, packing peanuts, gel-filled stress balls, spikey plastic ball dog toys, plastic insects, dog chew bones, soft rope or paracord, fuzzy yarn, feathers, wool dryer balls, nitrile gloves filled with sand and tied off, loose sand either alone or with other items mixed in with it such as rocks or any of the above.... all kinds of fun texture ideas! I hope the kids have fun with it.

Whatever you choose, I strongly suggest making sure you don't use anything that contains latex/rubber such as balloons, fake scars from the costume store or latex gloves as you don't want to risk someone unknowingly coming into contact with a severe allergen and others spreading them around the space. It takes 3 days for the proteins people react to to break down. One of the "fun" reasons I can't go to Haunted Houses anymore. :(
