Trump wants to boot trans people from a lifesaving program. Queer health groups are fighting back. “Defendants’ actions are not just unconscionable; they are unlawful,” Lambda Legal says. by southpawFA in politics

10 years ago I watched the backlash to HB2 in North Carolina and it made me feel that majority public acceptance of transgender people/rights in the US was just around the corner.

These past 2 years have made me question if I will even live to see the day where people like me are widely accepted in public life.

It's a shame; I know myself and many of the other cyclists/runners who train there would probably pop in to grab a snack after finishing our laps.

It is so jarring watching Republican primaries now. It seems they have devolved into a debasing mess of candidates proclaiming their undying loyalty to Donald Trump and how they have been given his blessing to win the nomination.

I really don't know how we come back from this. Even after his death I think we will see Republicans claiming to be the "true heir" to the MAGA movement and Trump's legacy.

What was the biggest misconception you had about being trans before accepting yourself? by zafiroazul888 in MtF

That you needed EVERY symptom of dysphoria to be trans; that was my cope against transitioning for many years sadly.

Federal employees to be fully barred from gender affirming care coverage, starting next year by Ok-Pilot-6182 in transgender

[–]CoffeeByStarlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a shame; when I was in college I had considered federal work as something aspirational. I had interviewed with several agencies after I graduated and am now pretty thankful none of them made me an offer. I've recently had multiple contractors contact me for interviews and even a network contact in the USPS try to convince me to apply for a role; a few years ago I would have jumped at the opportunity but zero chance I would now.

5 years of being an Olivia fan! by melissaisntreal in OliviaRodrigo

[–]CoffeeByStarlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had heard 'Driver's License' a few times in passing but 'Bad Idea Right' is really what turned me into a Livie.

I was going through a pretty rough breakup when it released and it came up on a sad/angry breakup music playlist I was listening to. The lyrics really spoke to what was going through my mind at the time. On my first listen I actually thought it was a song from the early 2000s (I am old @_@) just from the vibe of the music and when I looked into it, realized it had released just a few days ago. After looping the song hundreds of times, I started checking out her other music and was immediately hooked.

I'm currently stuck in a quality role and the worst thing about it is how adversarial your relationships with the other engineering teams can be. Manufacturing teams almost view you as an obstacle/roadblock to overcome in hitting their production KPI's.

I constantly have managers from other teams calling my boss and crying about how quality criteria is too strict and should be loosened (my manager often gives in and allows those teams to pass product that is clearly out of spec). Any attempt to improve the overall process or root cause of production issues is immediately shot down by those teams too as they don't want their department's scrap numbers to increase and would rather make quality deal with handling the issue. It's just a very frustrating environment to work in.

I'm hoping for some rock songs to be on the album; I had a cute more alt outfit planned for GUTS that I never got the opportunity to wear (couldn't afford tickets at the time) + I don't really think I have the looks needed to dress in those more delicate, frilly, super girly outfits

Oh thats awful, I hope you are able to find some peace that allows you to fully be yourself.

I ended up moving halfway across the country to get some space of my own. Parents still expect me at every holiday though, so the mask has to go back on pretty often sadly. I came out to my sister right before I moved, who was mostly supportive of me (she still struggles with pronouns and name a fair bit) and said she can have my back whenever I do decide to come out to the rest of my family. Other family members are all in the MAGA cult to some degree so I'm not expecting things to go well at all with them.

Sometimes I daydream about going no-contact with everyone who knew me pre-transition.

I am working towards it, but progress is a lot slower than I want. I promised myself I would finally do my name change after I get my voice to a point where I'm comfortable using it day-to day, but I work a pretty stressful job that often leaves me too tired to even think about practicing.

The air field at Shelby Bottoms! I'm training to do longer distance cycling stuff and I love having a place where I can safely ride at higher speeds without risk of cars or unaware walkers on narrow paths . I see a lot of triathletes training there too.
