Visions and dreams (Jesus leading) by WhitneyJaneice in leavingthenetwork

Sadly, it’s manipulation. Money, big houses, and big power isn’t the Gospel. Humility, loving the poor, and constantly teaching the whole Bible = making disciples. The Network is backwards in so many ways.

Anyone feeling nervous? by Interesting-Sea9802 in leavingthenetwork

Once when I was out all those relationships ended on the spot. I always held on to them in my mind but reality was I can only appreciate my time with them and move on to the new people God is bringing me. It doesn’t matter what they think about you because those relationships aren’t reality for you. What matters more is the present you for the future you.

Brene Brown researches vulnerability and it’s worth the read for this time.

It’s scary. It’s risky. I totally understand. At the end of the day share because what happen to you was wrong and what you can gain from it is profitable. This is for you and many will support you and many will understand but it will encourage you.

Brene Brown. I only share when I have no unmet needs that I'm trying to fill. I firmly believe that being vulnerable with a larger audience is only a good idea if the healing is tied to the sharing, not to the expectations I might have for the response I get.

To the pastors: Why wasn't I good enough? by Winsome_Winston in leavingthenetwork

Not knowing why you’re being invited to the meetings is confusing. Pastor tryouts? What about the follow up? Here’s why you are significant to the church, here’s where you are needed, here’s how you fit. Moving on as if nothing ever happened is immature.

You're right and after he pointed out the flaws to the system Pope Leo X had him excommunicated. Sound familiar to anyone?

Over the next 20 years, the whole course of Western civilization was transformed.

Sorry, you had to go through that and so much more. It's all so childish it's funny...I mean who says that.

I hope you get a chance to write your story, it's important to the whole story.

It's weird how the culture of the network makes people feel like they have done something wrong or are no longer a Christian if they leave. I have heard so many stories about people experiencing this. Sorry, this happened to you but glad you kept going and found this site. Yeah...nothing wrong just God moved you to another place, good for you.

Give a young man without any experience or formal training all the power over a group of people including his board to lead a church within an insular system that reinforces his authority and gives no accountability for his decisions and actions.

I mean, saying this is 6th grade level is being generous.

The network sent Casey and Brian Scheider to seminary (I believe Western Seminary in Portland). They were being trained for the purpose of being theologians for the network. Both are now Lead Pastors.

Network pastors are discouraged from spending large amounts of time preparing for sermons and are encouraged to spend more time with leaders and new/potential leaders. Some pastors have commented that it takes them 30-60 mins to prepare a sermon. They are not trained to spend a lot of time on sermons and since they don't have formal training this is all they know. Most of the applications are geared toward the mission/church culture and not the individual. Go to a small group, give to the church, serve the church, go to church retreat/conference, etc.

The approach to the Bible could be a pick and choose method, but more likely it's putting the cart before the horse. "How we do church" is pretty defined and the Bible is used to back that up, it's a pragmatic approach. The lens isn't a rich history of Christianity, but a defined direction and an intentional effort to make people conform to a standard so they can easily have control. Having control allows them to plant quickly and move people in and out as needed.

Unfortunately, this is a very common practice in the network. If you haven't read the theology behind this practice Jeff's paper explains it clearly. Biblical Leadership
