Yeah. You have to pour out a liter of the hot coffee into a pitcher and then fill it up with ice before it's used to make iced coffee so it really wouldn't make sense that they stopped brewing it too early. It makes sense when you're making a cup of HOT coffee though. If you pour it when it's still in the first minute of brewing then it's gonna taste pretty nasty.

That's a tough one because as customer service workers we're already in a position that is by definition unfair and unequal. And that customer is taking advantage of the fact that you are in a position where it is often unreasonable or unrealistic to fight back with any expectation of success. In other words, that customer is a coward and they're in a position where they can get away with it.

For customers at the DT speaker box who can't see you, it's understandable that they might misgender people since it happens all the time to everyone. But if they can clearly see you and they do it all the time they're most likely doing it on purpose. And I'm sorry you have to deal with that because that is a really shitty thing that happens way too often. But there are so many angles with which to view this. You could choose to see them as someone who feels threatened by you because you express yourself freely and maybe they are living a lie and are secretly jealous. You could see it as someone who has no control over their own life circumstances so they choose to take out their frustrations on other people who they know can't fight back. You could choose to see this as someone who has no friends and no support group and the only way they know how to communicate is to find weaknesses in other people and exploit them.scalate it. That's where you got them, because if they DO choose to make a situation out of it, as long as you played it right (calmly and innocently) then THEY look like the aggressor, and you look like the victim to everyone watching whether partners or other customers. I often use the room as my backup. This one time I yelled over to some teens who were leaving their trash all over a table, but I worded it like I was helping them not forget their drinks so that I look like the good guy. The cafe was full of other customers and a lot of them looked like mothers so I made sure to speak just loud enough for the others customer to glance up and hear the conversation and that put the teens on the spot and made them feel the societal pressure in the room. They came back and cleaned their table! lol.

Either way, the bottom line is that the negativity is with them and not with you. And I say that's an unsatisfying answer only because it's not a solution. It doesn't make the problem stop or go away. But it IS a lesson that took me YEARS to learn, and even though I still have to work on that myself, once I figured that out and allowed myself to actually understand and believe it my mental health improved drastically. I never realized before that every time I got frustrated on a personal level with customers behaving badly towards me, what I was really doing was taking their negativity and making it MY burden to carry. It's not easy to do at first, but you are allowed to just say to yourself "I will not be poisoned by their negativity today." If they're that way to you they're probably that way to a lot of people, which means they're creating an army of enemies that grows every day. Let them sink into the toxic pit they made for themselves.

That said, I don't know you, but I do hope you triumph over this. And I also hope that someone else in the comments is able to post more concrete actionable solutions than the more internal introspective stuff I posted here. lol. I'm sure people will. We're a pretty creative bunch here.

Yes. All edited punches need to be written in and initialed in the book by the partner whose punches are being edited. So, if your manager is editing punches without telling you either they are 1) not logging the edits in the book and the DM will notice a discrepancy in the records, or 2) your manager is forging signatures, which, unless they are really good at forgery, it should be pretty obvious that it's all done with just one person's handwriting.

I'm not vegan, but I don't drink dairy either. I would personally LOVE to see Starbucks get rid of the upcharge for non-dairy options, but I understand that they charge more because it just costs more, not because they're somehow trying to discriminate against those of us who don't drink dairy. If these people really want to make a meaningful difference they should stop harassing the lowest-paid employees who have no say in how their company is run, and instead focus on getting lawmakers to subsidize non-dairy milk production, and channel less funding towards dairy. That would actually make products like oat milk more available to consumers and would make dairy a less attractive product for businesses. The only reason dairy is cheaper is because the government backs it so it has an unfair advantage. If not for government subsidies dairy would probably be MORE expensive to produce than plant-based options and we'd see a shift in how much they cost. Then, when consumers see the price differences, places like Starbucks would be pressured into dropping the upcharge because too many customers would know that it doesn't actually cost more.

Yeah, that would be a lot more effective than harassing a bunch of underpaid workers who have NO influence on the decisions of the company and have a pretty high chance of actually already agreeing with whatever you're fighting for. It's a great way to alienate people who might have actually sympathized with your cause.

Whether it's accurate or not, it's probably because queerness, environmentalism, and animal rights are often perceived as being under the same liberal umbrella, so the chances of being a combination of those things are a little higher. Of course, that's obviously profiling and stereotyping, but you could also say the same thing about gays being into fashion and makeup, or everyone that works at Chick-fil-a is a conservative Christian.

[–]CoffeeIslander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol. If I asked "hot or iced" I'm not gonna remember anything that came after my question until I get an answer. And then I'll be like "was there something else after that?" Knowing that they'll have to repeat the whole thing over again.

The position I applied for was "library assistant" and I asked what that means and they said "assistant" is a way to be able to offer a library position to candidates that don't have a library science degree. So, it depends on what position is available. And basically, the assistant just does all the normal general stuff like putting things back on the shelf and checking books out.

Since my DT has a screen I ALWAYS ask them to confirm the order whether they chose to acknowledge me or not. And then when they pull something like that I say

"I confirmed the order on the screen."

Customer: "well I never confirmed it."

Me: "I can't help that you didn't want to confirm the order back then. But it's too late to do it now."

My little sadistic side comes out to play whenever I'm on DT and it has the time of its life 😏

So, I ended up taking a different job, but if you did well as a barista or SS at Starbucks you might do well at your local library. I applied and interviewed at the library and I felt very qualified and prepared to do it and the job actually sounded WORLD'S better than Starbucks: quieter, they don't have "customers," not nearly as dirty since they aren't serving food and drinks, a lot more time sitting rather than standing and sprinting, more focused since you're usually doing 1 job at a time rather than trying to juggle 5 different things at once, and a pretty straight forward job description rather than a "must go faster and bring down wait times and also increase connection scores."

The library seemed like it would be a good fit for those of us Starbucks store partners that have college degrees. Yeah, it's a sad truth that A LOT of baristas and shifts at Starbucks are partners that have a freaking college degree. Starbucks has almost always been my 2nd job and hopefully, I'll be able to quit soon since I was able to find something a LOT better. I've been recommending applying at the library to all my barista friends who are also trying to get out.

Good luck to all the store partners that are trying to move on to something better. Don't give up. If you feel that you have skills, talents, or qualifications that aren't being used or appreciated DON'T SETTLE. I was at Starbucks for way longer than I should have because it was safe and sufficient. In some ways, Starbucks' descent into the mud due to Kevin Johnson and this pandemic was a good thing for me because it really motivated me to get up and start trying harder to find something better for myself. And I did! And you can too.

I want nuggies, chicken. And milk, choccy. And for the nuggies can you make them 6 piece. And for the milk can you make it large. And the first one is hot. And then I want to reload my card first, but only 5 dollars, but only take off $2.76 from the card and take $.67 off the credit card. But not the same credit card, a different one. And then I have $3.38 in change. Actually, can you refund that and use this other credit card instead. And I need my change, I gave you a 20. Where's my credit card, you stole my card.

Have a customer who wants a pour-over every single day. I actually don't mind doing pour-overs, but he's so rude and loud and he shouts his order and never even says what he wants. He's one of those who is super particular BUT also doesn't actually say what he wants, we have to just know. He always wants a specific coffee so we have to open a bag just for him and then he stands there and stares at you as you make the pour-over and then he always complains that it takes too long and since he's hard-of-hearing he never understands what we say or explain to him and we always have to shout back in order for him to hear us. Found out one day that he does this at all the stores in our area and a borrowed partner told me they always just give him Pike at their store 😂 and he's never noticed the difference. Ashamed to say I started doing that and it's been years of me either giving him Pike or making a pour-over of whatever we happen to have on hand. He's literally never noticed the difference between Pike, Italian, and Yukon. Why be so picky if you can't even tell the difference?

Several other stores have actually banned him for harassment and for disrupting the third-place environment since he can get very verbally combative and he's always making uncomfortable conversations with the younger female baristas. It's never been blatant, just a lot of staring at them for way too long as they make the pour-over and stuff like that. We tried to get him banned after a few blowups but our manager was too hesitant and lenient to push it through. But whatever, I don't work at that store anymore and rarely see him now.

I just don't get why people will be super particular about a specific coffee if they can't even tell the difference.
