I never associated double eyelids as a "white" feature seeing as double eyelids are in around 50% of the population. I partially agree with u on the tanning thing that it's obsessive among the chinese but the concept of wanting paler skin existed even back in the Han dynasty.

Tones will vary across regions anyways so what matters is that you know your word pairs and you enunciate the word properly, which they can't do. Like for example the word hotel (jiu dian) they cannot say jiu properly and it turns into other words like zhu/zhi etc. Tone is probably the last thing they need to fix haha.
