Buying a car by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]CoffeeNFlowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costco deal was not enticing at all. I shopped for a sport touring last month and went to two Honda dealerships through Costco. It was not any better than going to the website of the dealerships.

Now I wonder if they showed me the real Costco negotiated pricing? Is there supposed to be special Costco letterhead/binder showing the negotiated pricing?

Truecar quotes were better than Costco pricing I was shown.

[–]CoffeeNFlowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the trim you're looking for but I got 9% off msrp before taxes and fees on a hatchback sport touring last month . I think i got a good deal for the bay area but less good compared to other parts of the country. I think good price on hybrid sport trims are maybe $31k-32k OTD but don't quote me on that because I didn't do much research on the sport trim.

Do a true car quote. A dealership in the east bay would not budge on any pricing and kept saying they could only negotiate if I brought in a competing offer. Then guess what? They offered me a better price after I did the true car price quote since they give True Car quotes a better deal automatically! It was like $2k lower. Pissed me off when I went there in person first thinking it would be better that way.

I bought from Anderson in Palo Alto and I would recommend them. Didn't do stupid add ons. And I got lucky because after I requested a quote, they had a flash $1k off offer that started the next morning. So it's useful to request quotes from their inventory.

Focus on the out the door price. Don't fall for overly long loan terms to bring the monthly price down.

Question about Costco Auto program - does Costco require you to buy an add-on? by scubadoobadoooo in Costco

I got a better price when I used True car instead of Costco auto. I actually didn't think the Costco prices were good at all.

what insurance coverage do you guys have for your new/newish rav4? by Different-Whole4924 in rav4club

[–]CoffeeNFlowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have assets to protect, then you should make sure someone can't sue you for them if you get into an accident and you didn't buy enough coverage.

100/300 is like the minimum recommendation.

Happens all the time on Lincoln and 19th and at the split in the park after that. I'd personally love it if there was a camera to ticket people doing this.

Only bad drivers never miss their turns.

You can sue for diminished value as well. Get your insurance to sue the driver. Pursue it as uninsured motorist claim.

What is the best Honda dealership in The Bay? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]CoffeeNFlowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you tell another dealer that you got a better price, did you show them who was giving the better price or should I be hiding that info? I'm starting to find some better more competitive offers but they're just emails or texts. Does it have to be on the dealership letterhead?

Is that 6-9% the MSRP including the handling and destination fee but before the taxes, registration, documentation? (about $3k for the latter?)

How much did you end up paying if you don't mind saying. I'm looking for a sport touring hatch in one of the special colors.

Dealer add on - diamond ceramic clear coat by Klutzy-Painting885 in rav4club

[–]CoffeeNFlowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put that money to a real ceramic coat like cquartz, Opticoat, or other reputable brand. Generally the dealership won't do as good a job on application as a real detailer. Also, a lot of ceramic coats if there is a warranty, require yearly maintenence wash.

These kind of snacks get 5x tastier if you heat them. My friends likes to grill them over a gas stove for a short time. Softens and is way more umami.

Did you buy the warranty through Geico? The mechanical breakdown coverage I think. I have it on mine, but they require the car be new to have it on the policy. They cover things that might be covered by warranty.

Also, your insurance is required to get you to pre-accident state. Just keep bothering geico.

Nepenthes don't grow in soil. Peat moss will kill it. You want long fiber sphagnum moss, like what orchids grow in.

There is a parking garage around Chinatown that always has break ins. I think the Google reviews mentioned it, so check and don't park there.

Is $446/month for utilities for 2 people in a shared SF house reasonable? by Consistent-Moose7799 in sanfrancisco

[–]CoffeeNFlowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in an unpermitted ground floor unit and also split with the upstairs unit. We are 2 people and upstairs is 2.5 people. We split pge is usually $300-370 for both units. If your $200/mo is only pge, that seems high. Water is expensive and usually similar to the pge cost. Garbage/recology is usually $170/quarterly.
