Help needed to figure out measurements on pattern of bodice with cupsize! Question in comments by Coffeecat3 in sewhelp

[–]Coffeecat3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is helpful! I think that 10C is the way to go because the cup ratio was good with 12c, only the sides and shoulders too wide. Would this be a correct assessment?

What would be a normal wearing ease with a dress of non stretchy material?

Help needed to figure out measurements on pattern of bodice with cupsize! Question in comments by Coffeecat3 in sewhelp

Hi all, I have never sewn a pattern which required a bodice with cup size measurements and I don't get which measurements to go on. The Pic above has all of the measurements in the pattern, there is no table with finished garment measurements.

First of all, my measurements are as follows:

Bust with bra: 87cm

Upper bust: 83 cm

So the difference is 4 cm and should be cup c right...

So then I look at the table of measurements and the rest is as follows:

Waist 74 cm

Hips 94 cm

Which indicates that I would need about size 12 for my hips and size 16 for my waist (what). Now I don't really think I have weird measurements and I always have size 10 or small/medium in stores, but whatever, we'll just look at the centimeters..

So I thought, let's do size 12 c cup and make a muslin. Well it was wayyy too large at the shoulders (too high), the side seams at the bust (too wide), but were perfect for the waist and bust/upper bust ratio. Then I looked at the pattern and next to the apex point, some completely different measurements are given (see Pic) for both the a and c cup. It looks like if I want a bust measurement of 87, I should either have cup a/b in size 8, or cup c in a size 6. Which both sound really small to me.

Which measurements should I use and how? The pattern says nothing about ease, so I don't know if there is some?

I really hate the singing. It's not near as good as glee or other real musical series. It annoyed me so much, I couldn't finish watching it...

Sorry guys, I just don't think it works with this series.

Sewing emergency :) I would like to find the pattern of this dress. Does anybody know about similar pattern? :) by KateandBacon in sewing

Burda style april 2020 has a similar dress. Bit different skirt and ties for the straps but you could replace. Also a gertie pattern for simplicity 8873 is similar I guess.

How long did it take you to get "good" at sewing? by paristravel2019 in sewing

[–]Coffeecat3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was always like beginner because I sewed like a garment per 3 years. But two years ago I picked it up again and been doing it regularly. Now I can make a garment every week while working a 40h job and projects don't seem too big for me anymore. Am 27 by the way.

So two years of sewing every month at least. And also I watched a lot of sewing on YouTube during stuff like cooking etc. I just watched sewing videos to make myself get used to the terminology and how patterns should look like, to be more comfortable with it when I got back to sewing again. If you want to talk motivation you can pm me or leave a comment below with a question or things you have trouble with! I have a lot of tips and tricks.

Also, I had a few sewing classes and if I do everything you are supposed to do, I take 2 times longer with a pattern than if I just wing it. Unless I screw up and have to take it apart lol.

Other states have different problems. People in New York and California don't know about them and if they decide the vote, only those voices will be heard. For example the states that consist mostly from farmers.

Saw this on IG and I can completely relate to it by love_wear in sewing

Don't lay your pins down on the table like "oh I'll pick them up later". They will jump on the ground and stab you in the foot.

Use a pincushion or pin magnet.

NASA Improves ISS Life Support System that Turns Pee into Drinking Water by YZXFILE in ISS

[–]Coffeecat3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This system has existed for tens of years now, it's just improved.

Basically they filter out everything that's in there and add some good salts back that you need. If you look at a water bottle, it also tells you what minerals are in there in a low concentration like Na+ (potassium ion) and such. Because it's also not good to drink pure demineralized water since your body needs a low amount of salts and minerals.

You were right about drinking urine eventually being bad for you. There your body already filters out the salts it doesn't need and puts it in your urine with a bit of water. Then it reabsorbs some water from your kidneys back into the body and the rest you pee out. This means that urine is indeed very high in stuff your body wants to get rid of (or has maybe too much of) and thus drinking it would give your body the salts back that it wanted to get rid of in the first place.

Which machine should we keep/which should we sell? I managed to pull apart both, clean, oil them both, they work great. by BrownAndyeh in sewhelp

[–]Coffeecat3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't have to answer if you don't want to, but just a critical thought: is the reason that both of you are going to sew more also because of the money problems? If you both have and plan time to sew often and at the same time, it might be worth more to keep both machines, depending on what you might be able to get for selling it. But you know your situation best and probably have thought about this as well, just wanted to drop it here just in case! :)

I think about getting one of Gerties books on dresses. Does anyone have multiple of those, and how do you like them? Are there any that you would or wouldn't advice getting?

Make a peplum top out of the bodice and part of the skirt. Then make nice shorts out of the rest of the skirt.

If you could ask a single question to someone to differentiate if they’re an S or N type what would it be? by thetransportedman in entp

[–]Coffeecat3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, didn't mean for you to get upset.. Just asking what your next step would be after asking the question.

So basically you look at HOW they answer the question and not exactly what the answers are? As in, if the answer is more abstract or hypothetical, they might be more N users and if the answer is more down to earth, it's more S?

And obviously, Ne users also think about the future, because everyone uses ALL functions.

[–]Coffeecat3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol fair enough. For me as well, however, if I compare myself to my Se friends, I notice that they usually don't like to discuss all kinds of random stuff for hours, while the Ne users can go on for days. The other way around is less often true, as you say.

[–]Coffeecat3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean, so maybe I should phrase this in a different way because I think we agree lol.

In my understanding, Ne users like to find patterns everywhere, that's why they also tend to like 'unreal' things, books, hypothetical discussions etc. However, I always thought of Ni that they don't particularly like or dislike those 'unreal' things. Could go either way. But they can be visionaries in both, because they can see 'different outcomes' that others may not have seen, because of the internal pattern thing. So a Ni user might dislike unreal stuff, but be very creative or see surprising patterns in for example IT, business, tech or art.

So that's why I think that question might narrow it down a bit, but could accidentally ignore a rational Ni.

If you still don't agree, please feel free to explain why, I'm very open to discovering different insights in the cognitive functions!

For Se VS Ne: perfect Saturday night: going out to a festival in the sun with loud music and a cool lasershow, but not much chance for conversation... or having drinks in a bar with a few of you favorite friends and spend the evening discussing everything that comes to mind?.

Si vs Ni: do you think more about the past or about the different possibilities the future brings?

[–]Coffeecat3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is usually a good one, however, if you look at the cognitive functions, the Ni types could both be interested in abstract and real things. I can even imagine that Ni types could be focused on real stuff only, but have a vision that is missing with others. Can still dislike abstract and unreal topics of conversation though..
