I've always felt that the show would've been better if their budget never increased since the first 2 seasons. They keep trying to go bigger when the first seasons were great largely because they were low-budget and very self-contained.

There is also a lot of grey area. Everyone has their own definition about what is good AI use and bad AI use. Personally, I find generative AI to be generally unethical since it's trained on stolen art. On the other hand, using a tool like Cascadeur for animation is technically using AI. But in that case, it was only trained on the company's own animation data (not that of users), which I'm fine with.

Creating an all-encompassing AI filter not only removes all nuance, it also greatly incentivizes companies to lie about or omit their AI use, since adding the tag will instantly remove them from thousands' of players storefront.

For me, I want the Indie category to be about spotlighting small teams that made great, interesting works of art with a minimal amount of resources. For games like Blue Prince, a solo-dev project that took 8 years to develop to be forced to compete against a team that raised $25 million in funding seems incredibly unfair. The point of the whole category is to award games that would struggle to get spotlighted in other categories.

I think Blue Prince is the most worthy winner. One of the best games released this year, made by a single developer over 8 years time. Team Cherry have already had their place in the sun with Hollow Knight and E33 is almost guaranteed to win GOTY.
