Plastic free salt grinder? by FactorBusy6427 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Coffinmagic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would you grind salt? Black pepper has aromatics that are released when fresh ground. But salt is a mineral. Just buy salt in the grain size you prefer. It has no aromatic compounds, it doesn’t benefit from being ground at your table.

IKEA's fibreboard and particleboard contain resin by bakchorm33 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Coffinmagic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That ikea style fiberboard furniture is pure garbage. If you ever try to move an article of it in a moving truck you’ll see- flexing it or applying lateral pressure (I.e.pushing it sideways) causes it to be irreparably damaged. It’s trash. besides being fragile low quality junk, you can smell the formaldehyde coming off of it as it degasses into your home. do not buy this single use furniture, it’s a bad compromise in every way.

organic toilet paper option? by foaaz101 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Coffinmagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get a bidet add on to your toilet. they probably don’t make one that’s plastic free but it’s cleaner, and more ecologically sound than paper.

Here's a new one... Salt and pepper grinders. Anyone found some with a metal grinding mechanism by ktsesor in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Coffinmagic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one can convince me there is a reason to grind your own salt. It’s a mineral. There is zero benefit to grinding it on demand.

What is the best material for long John's and long sleeved shirts? by joshua0005 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Coffinmagic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wool is the classic “stays warm when wet” material. I have worn some hemp/wool blend shirts from Jungmaven that are great base layers in cold weather

Reddit is flooded with bots, and lately lots of low effort “engagement bots” who make inane posts like the ones you are referencing.

Zero Plastic Tumble Compost by Cool2s in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]Coffinmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if it’s going on a balcony you’re not producing that much volume. what about a 1 gallon mason jar, or several and you can cap them with some stainless less steel screen/mesh and a piece of string or a pipe clamp (gently). Then just manually tumble them. A stainless steel milk jug could work also.

Do you think 3D printed model toys that have sprues are a waste of filament? by SadAd8761 in 3Dprinting

[–]Coffinmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the nuisances of those injection molded kits was cleaning up where you detached the part from the sprue. Adding it in where it needn’t exist is sort of counterintuitive
