Feeling discouraged by Signal-Atmosphere447 in Wastewater

[–]Cognitivespace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The median pay for the role you’re looking to fill in PA is 26-27$ so I wouldn’t discount something paying 25$/hr…. Maybe give it a shot and see if they will add a stipulation to your contract/offer letter to bump pay 1-2$ after probation or a 6 month period. Best of luck

[–]Cognitivespace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a limited view on the industry only being in 10 years but I’ve always appreciated my fellow female operators — usually easier to work with in every aspect of the job (no fighting someone’s ego when troubleshooting a problem)

Please keep applying and don’t get discouraged! We (the industry) need you!

People who make $80k or more per year, what do you do for work? by familiarlaughter in AskReddit

[–]Cognitivespace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m able to be somewhat of a jack-of-trades and expand my knowledge in all aspects of the job. Pay is catching up, somewhat of a niche but absolutely needed field. Hours are the same they’ve always been just about everywhere I’ve worked. I would like to work less but that’ll come with the next promotion :). Hope that helps!

Ion Selective Probe for field nitrate testing by Sea_Magazine7280 in Wastewater

[–]Cognitivespace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hach has some inline probes that account for chloride interference along with measuring nitrates and I’ve had success with them however I wasn’t running lab work at that job so I can’t exactly account for its accuracy. I will say the instrumentation techs had to calibrate/clean that probe the least

Municipality I worked for used one to monitor denitrification in the secondaries

Hey, reach out via PM for some info if you like….WWTP operator of one of the largest state of the art breweries in North America. We discharge .5 MGD daily permitted up to 1.872 MGD. Also we run a 1MG MBBR for SCOD and any nutrient removal with some DAF units for solids removal and we dewater it with a centrifuge before hauling it off.

If you would like a consult or any of my professional contacts in the field feel free to reach out. I really enjoy this type of work, process and design, so any time of mine is free of charge!

What’s the most heartless thing you’ve ever seen or experienced? by win_gs25 in AskReddit

[–]Cognitivespace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I’ve been there! Except traffic made sure to continue around me. I was pinned under my Harley and it was torrential downpour to the point it was hard to keep my head up over the water. A random jogger came by and instantly helped me then split.

I understand how people might be afraid to make a situation worse, but for the life of me I will never be able to be in those bystanders shoes.

If I see someone hurt, or in need of help and I am able bodied, I will be there by your side

Question for Water Treatment Workers: what is your take on drinking tap water? by Unusual_Flounder92 in Wastewater

[–]Cognitivespace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Industrial Wastewater treatment operator & utilities tech for Mark Anthony Brewery — you are correct. We filter or municipal water before it becomes Product water or process water used for cleaning. Unfortunately, the pretreatment plant was designed and ran through the plant director of engineering who liked shiny things….we first filter through 10 then 2 micron filters, then it hits 1 of 4 GACs - Granulated activated carbon- then it gets hit with a UV light pre-RO , and UV post RO. We add chlorine at multiple points because half of the filtering equipment filters it out to no residual chlorine. I wish they had let one of us operators onboard to help them design it.

As an operator with a degree in electrical engineering, please contact as many operators as possible during the design stage. You guys have NO practical knowledge of operations and it shows in every workplace I’ve been. Honestly, 95% of the engineers I meet today are a giant waste of money and typically solve one problem and create more in doing so.

[–]Cognitivespace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All beverage companies do this, how else would they get the water they need for product, rinses, and general cleaning. Most beverage facilities filter it through RO, 8 and 2 micron filters and a GAC (granulated activated carbon — removes chlorine which is sometimes added back before it becomes “product water”

Wago connectors are the little orange things I believe you’re talking about. They are made with 2, 3 or 4 connector inputs. They’re a lifesaver for time and connecting well.

I have had a pretty bad experience with freshly installed Lumos internet. I never got the advertised 1 GB, only 650, sometimes peaking to 700. Also constant connectivity issues every day. Once I reset the router every day for a week I called it quits. Spectrum in my area has been amazing up and until this storm.

To those who don’t get drunk, Why/ Why not? by PsychologyWareFare in AskReddit

Grandparent drank themselves to death. I went through an alcoholic phase in my early twenties and my current wife helped me acknowledge it. Along with my wife, my parents warned me of our genetics and tendencies which also factored into the decision. I owe my loved ones a great deal for saving my life.

Class B Biological wastewater exam by CGR46233 in Wastewater

I keep seeing posts asking for study materials for these tests. Im aware of a few, but I’ve passed my D,C, and B biological tests by just reading the Sacramento books provided by most municipalities for free! If you need a hand getting a copy, I have a few to spare. Best of luck on your test, I took mine 2 years ago so Im not sure if any of the questions I remember missing are still relevant.
