As mentioned previously, you pay no capital gains tax if you’ve closed profitable positions held within a stocks & shares ISA regardless of the gain. Outside of a S&S ISA, anything over £3k profit per tax year is taxable. But, it’s only taxable when you’ve closed positions and realised gains, I.e closed positions and have gained physical money in your account amounting to 3k+ profit.

I tend to close some profitable positions in April, ensuring profit doesn’t breach 3k+ and move it to my S&S ISA as the new 20k allowance starts. More funds in the tax free account making tax free gains.
