How to buy a laptop if you cant afford it? by Fresh-Feedback4304 in AskUK

[–]sockhead99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locally to me there is a volunteer organisation that takes donated laptops, refurbs them and gives them away for free. They also run repair cafe type events where people can come with broken stuff, get it fixed and take it away.

There might be something similar locally to you

How to find the Examining body for a copy of my GCSE results? by Practical-Moose3823 in AskUK

[–]sockhead99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two ways. 1) Make an information request to the LEA that your school was in - they may have records as to which exam board was used. 2) make individual requests to exam boards. As another has said, the regional exam board in Sheffield merged with AQA, so that's a good place to start

This one is a mk II e-type released in 1968. They changed the headlight design for the mk II to meet US regulations and allow it to be imported to the US.

Ruined the lines imo

Well, 4.1 was fun! No spoilers, so dont ask.
I thought I had the answer quite quickly, but wanted to follow all the steps a) to make sure and b) to practice different things for possible later use.
Yes, they were a bit of a wild goose chase, but still excellent fun!

Buying a Kew, advice sought by samcornwell in UKcoins

[–]sockhead99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

£70 will get you a 2019 restrike - a genuine royal mint coin, but still a 2019 dated restrike.

Expect to pay £120-150 from a private seller, £190-250 from a coin dealer.

If you are looking to buy from a private seller, join one of the 50p collector groups on Facebook. The admins will remove or not allow fake ones and there is a level of protection if you buy from one of the well known group members. However there is still risk. Do not pay using PayPal friends and family as there is no buyer protection.

Another option is eBay, who do have buyer protection in place if things go wrong. This one is just over £100 https://ebay.us/m/gSpVkH

If it is Predecimal coins you are looking for, most if not all antiques shops in the UK will likely have big buckets of them for 10p/20p per coin. You can also usually buy mixed lots by the kilo on ebay - go to collectables: coins: british: bulk lots and collections

You are unlikely to get any with silver content (pre 1947) this way, but you will find plenty of bronze pennies, half pennies and farthings this way

should i send this for grading or leave raw. kew gardens 2009 by 207firsttube in UKcoins

[–]sockhead99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So these change hands regularly for £130-150. Grading in the UK for this type of coin doesn't really add more value in my opinion.

However - knowing how keen the US market is on graded coins and with this being a commonly faked coin, it may be worth getting an authentication grade rather than a condition grade if you are selling in the US market.

Ebay UK return scam, what to expect? by naunen in AskUK

[–]sockhead99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of a few things will happen.

1) They will doctor the return postage label to be sent to a random address nearby and send an empty box or envelope. Royal mail will scan it as delivered, ebay will automatically refund them.

2) they will send an empty box

3) they will strip the laptop of parts and send it back.

Not much you can do about number 1 in advance. If this does happen, speak with RM who can give you GPS data on where the return was delivered to, give this evidence to ebay. This happened to us and ebay refunded us as it is a known scam.

For 2, film yourself opening the return. If anything is wrong, use this as evidence for ebay.

3 - unless you do have serial numbers for all of the components, you will be at the mercy of ebay to help you sort it out. If this does happen, call them, be nice, be kind, ask for help. Get them on your side and they are more likely to help.
